kahoona
HiI have recently had to change to AT&T DSL from cable. Utorrent worked fine before now my internet speed drops to 0 up and down as soon as Utorrent gets going. It will work if I keep my Utorrent speeds down to something like 25k but it seems like anything over that or more than 5 active torrents causes it to go to 0 for ten minutes or so. When this happens my second computer is also unable to connect indicating that I have been cut off somewhere before the PC itself. I have a DLink router which worked great before the switch. There is a Motorola DSL modem ahead of the router. Does AT&T throttle? Can I get around it? AT&T is all I can get here aside from Dial Up!Kahoona
schnurlos
Perhaps your UL/DL speeds changed with the new ISP/connection. So you should run the speed-guide (CTRL+G) again. But it could also (or additional) be the modem akting like a router too. If you can find it here http://forum.portforward.com/ that could be the case. Switeck
Try the latest v1.8.1 beta. Some serious connectivity bugs were fixed.
kahoona
Trying 1.8 Beta now. Thanks. UL speeds changed big time and have been reset but even when they are exceeded my connection should not drop to 0 for 10 minutes. I suspect a router or DSL Modem problem. thelittlefire
Indeed if it's your connection dying, I'd start with the modem.. then router. Make sure you're not killing it with too many connections. Follow http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992 for reducing settings.
kahoona
HiMade sure ports are forwarded properly. Bought the portforeward.com program to be sure. No change. I'll work my way through the stuff on your massage Switeck. How do I check the modem? Re the Router; if it did not have too many connections while working at 8Megs down and 1.3 up using the entire BW before is it even possible to have too many with my current stinky little DSL? My goal is to use 90% of the up all the time since it is so small. It is the only way I can survive. To do this I need to have a lot of UL's open in the hopes that one of them will use it. How can I do this? KahoonaHiMore info. Please help. The number of connections does not matter, I tried 7 and around 70. I can max out my connection for 15 min with 50+ U tube streams without a problem but a similar or smaller load on Utorrent causes it to shut down within 5 seconds. It does not slow it stops. About 5 minutes after I shut down Utorrent it starts again. Please help. Are you sure that AT&T is not screwing with me???Here is the answer for the benifit of those with the problem in future. ATT ser the modem to a "Bridged" setting sa opposed to a pppoe setting. That produces a problem for the router. The Modem must be set to PPPOE for the Utorrent to work through the Router. The router will then need to be set up differently than ATT suggests but the wizzard that came with it was able to set it up correctly.
