Upload/Downloading speed problems

Hi there, I've stumbled across a problem which I can't figure out, even if I read posts on this forums...can't seem to find anything that is similar to my problem.

I've used Utorrent for a while now but when the last version came out something happened. If I download something and set the upload speed on that torrent on 10kbs the downloading speed will go down to 10kbs...If I raise the UL speed to 25kbs the DL speed will go to around 200-300, and If I raise the UL speed to 45kbs then the DL speed will go to max, which is 800-900kb for my internet. NOW, the really messed up thing is that if I set the Upload speed to unlimited...my download speed will go down to 10kbs again and same goes If I set the UL speed to anything above 45kbs or any lower than 25kbs. I can't figure this out, I didn't have this problem before I installed the latest version and I know it's not the torrents since I have around 50 torrents active in my utorrent from very good seeding sites.

Here is a sum up of the problem if you didn't understand what I wrote. If I leave the UL speed unlimited and it reaches max, my download speed will more or less vanish. If I set the UL speed to the lowest my DL speed will also disappear. If I set the UL around 50% of what my internet can allow, then the download speed goes to max.

UL speed: 1-24kbs ===> DL speed: 10kbs

UL speed: 25ish ===> DL speed: 200-300kbs

UL speed: 45ish ===> DL speed: 800-900 (max for my connection)

UL speed: 46-80(max for my connection) ===> DL speed: Close to 0.

Anyone knows how to fix this?

Okay, thanks for the help. It doesn't matter how many torrents I have anyways, still the same problem, even if I only have 1 torrent active.

Okay, now I did change the settings and have chosen the best settings for my connection, but the problem remains. If I UL at max, my DL will go down to nothing and If I set my UL to never upload above 1kb/s my download speeds drops to 10-12kb/s. Seems as if any Upload speed set to not rise above 1-10kb/s will make my download speed drop to 10-12 kb/s. But if the upload speed is too high, my download speed will also be reduced to next to nothing.

I don't really know what you mean, but my upload speed is the same as it always has. I Upload at 80-90 when I do full upload and it has never made my download speed drop before, still, if I was blowing past my connections real limits then It should probably work if I just lower my upload speed, but anything higher than 45-50kb/s makes my download speed drop...I have the same computer as I had before, same internet connection, same internet suppliers, same router...nothing has changed since the version of utorrent before the update...but now I'm stuck with this problem :/

Humour me and try 1.8.1 if you're using 1.8..

Also, Max sustained upload speed will throttle your download speed, and from what I've been told today 1.8 throttles your download speed with an upload limit that's too low. All I can say is that if you set your upload limit to 50% of it's max and you get max download, that is pretty much how it should be.

To sum up: You cannot download at your maximum line capacity while simultaineously uploading at your maximum line capacity

To sum up metaphorically: They're strangling each other :P

Max sustained upload speed will not throttle your download very much.

(Note: max sustainable is lower than pure max upload!)

1-5 KB/sec lower upload than max sustainable and it won't throttling download measurably ANY, except on a torrent where your connection is so overloaded by incoming connections that it nearly crashes your router and/or modem anyway.

50% of your upload max basically means screw others MAX MY DOWNLOAD!

So long as your download is significantly higher than your upload, you're already winning the race.

...But do try v1.8.1 beta.

Ahh hell with it. Ain't that big of a deal. Not worth the time to try and fix it. My friend has the same problem, but he has always had this problem, for over 2 years. And we have the same internet suppliers, so maybe it's something I can't fix. Weird that I haven't had this problem before though...strange...well, thanks for all your help! Nice to see people out there willing to help someone else but themselves! Thanks alot!
