dagerousdave
After being prompted to download utorrent version 1.8 several times, i eventually took the plunge and downloaded it a couple of days ago. But, ever since installing it my speeds have been ridiculously slow. I was quite happy with the speeds of my old version and wish i had never made the change. What can i do to get back my speeds? DreadWingKnight
How painfully slow?
dagerousdave
Painfully slow as in less than 10 KB/s down. I sorted the problem by restoring my computer to an earlier date and getting the proper download speeds again of 500kB/s down. But i would still like to know what the problem is with version 1.8.Can anyone help?
DreadWingKnight
Usually stupid settings somewhere along the way. Most commonly internet security software that has broken.
dagerousdave
I've had to upgrade to utorrent 1.8 again because of certain trackers i'm using have banned 1.7 and i'm still getting the same speed problems as before. I use minimal security software and only use windows firewall. My speeds were good with utorrent 1.7 so why are they so slow with the 1.8 version? Whats changed? dagerousdave
Thanks, but i already went through this guide with a fine tooth comb and it did nothing to improve my upload or download speeds. Also, after reading through some other forums, it seems i'm not the only one having problems with the 1.8 version. Has anyone got any answers about 1.8 ?
DreadWingKnight
Have you tried 1.8.1 yet?Where is the information that the guide requested?
dagerousdave
Trying 1.8.1. Information? I only read... "BE PREPARED TO PROVIDE THESE PIECES OF INFORMATION UPON REQUEST"Anyways... 1.8.1 seems to have solved the problem thank god. Back to my old speeds again. Switeck
You were probably using hostile-to-others settings in uTorrent. It "worked again" in v1.8.1 because it lets you screw others over even if it's long-term not beneficial to you.Try my recommended speed guide for settings:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=34259Do note that with lower settings on uTorrent, it can be very network-friendly and internet-sharing friendly. That's NOT true with all BitTorrent clients!
thelittlefire
Don't be a leecher, if you were seeing http://utorrent.com/faq.php#What_does_Download_Limited_in_the_status_bar_mean.3F in the status bar or General tab... there's a reason you were limited. Bittorrent requires sharing. And Switeck's settings should have been changed to default for 1.8.1 IMNSHO after the leechers won.
Firon
Most likely, the only reason your speeds suddenly shot up is because 1.8.1 removed the anti-leech limiter when you set your upload to 1-3kbyte/s in the per-torrent configuration. Ultima
Information? I only read... "BE PREPARED TO PROVIDE THESE PIECES OF INFORMATION UPON REQUEST"I thought it was obvious that line was referring to the bullet points below it. At any rate, clarified that line a bit (even if it's no longer pertinent to your situation).
