elvon
Hey guys i have a really nice computer with fiber optic internet. My router is: Netgear wnr854t. I am getting download speeds of only about 30-50k for everything combined. for each download its about 5k per download. On most of them i have about 50(300) seeds so a decent amount of seeds for a pretty common download. I cannot figure out how to make this faster. My brothers is the same way, i have vista he has xp. Any suggestions?
thelittlefire
Do you see http://utorrent.com/faq.php#What_does_Download_Limited_in_the_status_bar_mean.3F in the status bar or the General tab?
Switeck
1st and 2nd link in my signature.1st one is for troubleshooting, and tells you what information you'll need to give us if the problem isn't solved quickly.2nd link gives suggested settings for uTorrent based on your max sustainable UPLOAD speed.NOTE: Max sustainable UPLOAD speed is far less than max download speed for most connections. Also try the latest v1.8.1 beta. Numerous connection fixes have been made since v1.8 came out.
elvon
Alright what me and my bro think is the guy renting a room at our condo might be stealing all the bandwitch. on the network he has like 3 seperate things, 2 for WOW and 1 for utorrent. Why we think this is because we have tried every setting and so forth, also when he came home one time suddenly me and my bros jumped up way high and then went down so maybe happened when he shut things down for a sec. anyways.. any way for us to check this? to see if hes taking all the bandwith? thelittlefire
Talk to him. Ask him. If he denies it, won't stop doing it 24/7... could try disabling/killing his rules ... Some routers allow QoS mode for things like this to be done automatically.
Switeck
Mine doesn't allow QoS, but I can completely block an ip from internet access on it...and block ports. Turning off UPnP support might also un-forward ports. There's all kinds of ways to screw over other LAN users if you control the router, even if the router is old and primitive. elvon
k but i dont want to screw him over i just want us to be fair with splitting the bandwith, anything u guys know of to look at that?
Switeck
He may have a virus on the computer that's using up lots of upload. If your router logs show incoming and outgoing connections, it might be possible to see how quickly his computer is making new connections.
