sebkg
Hi,I have 2 different active torrents. Both torrents are for the same set of .rar files but one of the torrents also include an additional text file in the package - so effectively the torrents are not for identical data.In torrent X file A is 95% downloaded but nobody has the remaining 5%.In torrent Y file A is 0% downloaded but the entire 100% is available. If I copy file A from the X directory to the Y directory and force a re-check the completion does NOT go all the way up to the 95% observed in torrent X but instead stops at about 50%. Why is this? Is there a way to get around this?thanks!
GTHK
If it stops in the exact same place each time, then the files aren't the same. Since you speak of RAR archives, the archives could have been built differently, different compression options, use of solid archives or recovery records, etc.
thelittlefire
You don't need to copy the data. For torrent 2 with same data as torrent 1 but named differently, in Files tab for torrent 2, right click, relocate ....path to existing data. Right click, force recheck
sebkg
Yeah I thought I could just use the "relocate" option but am scared that if it doesn't recognise it as being the same file (or I run into that same problem again) then it will start downloading data over what is already there...@GTHK - could there be any other explanation? I feel reasonably confident that the files are the same... Both torrents have 63 rar files each 100mb except for the last which is 85.7mb, and all have the same release tag... GTHK
Files aren't saved in a purely continuous method unless you use the solid archive option in RAR's
moogly
Yep but in his case, I think the additional file is just a NFO or TXT file but RAR parts are identical. So simple relocation is the solution then forced re-check.
sebkg
Thanks for the replies...I understand files aren't saved in the same way but I am 95% confident that the archives come from the same original source. The new torrent has the same archive as the original but also has an additional text file in there....Once any of the individual rar pieces is 100% complete I can copy it to the other torrent and it goes up to 100% when I force a re-check.... moogly
So your pbm is solved !
thelittlefire
Yes. That's how you know the torrents are for identical content.
sebkg
Haha...Nah problem isnt solved because the files don't always go up to the same percentage complete as they were at on the other torrent. Not a huge problem, I was just kind of curious as to what causes this effect and whether it can be resolved....thanks anyway
DreadWingKnight
Nah problem isnt solved because the files don't always go up to the same percentage complete as they were at on the other torrent.Incomplete pieces aren't merged, nor are pieces that do not actually match in both torrents. sebkg
So if you stop a torrent before a piece is complete how does it get saved? Or how does it keep track whether a piece is complete or not?
thelittlefire
The problem isn't the method you're asking about. TWO torrent sets can only VALIDATE complete pieces. That's what the SHA-1 hashes are for... validating complete pieces. And BOTH. If you really want to know, look at your resume.dat with http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=31306 Since I doubt you do, accept the fact the torrents were not created with the same data.
