DreadWingKnight
the ico format is a separate format from bitmaps. Follow the skinning guide.
iLOL
no mate, i downloaded the .ICO files (main.ico) from the skins page and added them to utorrent folder but those 2 dont appear, other ico files works fine.
DreadWingKnight
Which icon skins are you talking about specifically?
thelittlefire
http://utorrent.com/skinning.php You need to stick them with settings.dat not utorrent.exePlease right click, copy the LINK you used from http://utorrent.com/skins.php to download the icon(s). iLOL
do you guys read posts or is this an automated reply? lolWhich icon skins are you talking about specifically?read my first post above, there are images of the icons im talking about, haven't you notice them?here they are again..http://utorrent.com/skins.php?action=download&id=853http://utorrent.com/skins.php?action=download&id=907ou need to stick them with settings.dat not utorrent.exePlease right click, copy the LINK you used from http://utorrent.com/skins.php to download the icon(s).i haven't reached this level of n00bness yet mate, YES all my icons are located in the directory of the SETTINGS.DAT under the utorrent directory located in Documents & Settings (not Program Files) and it has always been so for the last 3 years.eg. C:\Documents and Settings\****\Application Data\uTorrentclose utorrent completely, copy main.ico and tray.ico, open utorrent, that's how i always did it.so i'll repeat again....EVERY ICON WORKS...... "EXCEPT" THE 2 ICONS I MENTIONEDhttp://utorrent.com/skins.php?action=download&id=853http://utorrent.com/skins.php?action=download&id=907thanks. DreadWingKnight
Thanks for actually linking them this time. I spend absolutely no time on the skins page so I don't know which ones are which by looking at them. Those two icons are actually in an unsupported format. Firon
Any icon that contains a 256x256 icon for Vista will not work if you're not on Vista.
thelittlefire
And you can generally tell when it's unsupported when the ICO is > 180 KiB. There is no compression in .ICO files so the size increases by magnitudes (though still small by today's standards). I found this mentioned http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=327840#p327840
Ghostwalker
Glad I seen this thread will have to redo some icons. As for the application Icon we can supply one that is Vista Ready correct. It is just the tray.ico and the main.ico cannot be?
thelittlefire
Err the sticky http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=482 covers what you posted elsewhere. As to the application icon I can't think of what you're talking about except maindoc.ico covered http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=291381#p291381 and http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=330144#p330144 which was added in 1.7I do know 256^2 px icons fail to work below Vista, and reshacker errors out when loading such files. I assume something about 8-bit resolution value. I've not tested 128 px^2, but all .ICO files with <= 64^2 px will load (whether 32- or 8-bpp). Ghostwalker
Thanks for the links thelittlefire the exe icon was what I was talking about for the app icon. The new icon you have is real nice but for people that use a dock because it does not have at least 128 px it looks blurred. If the application will not support a 128 px icon you should consider on install to add a 128 px png to the programs folder to be used for docks. I will redo my icon and upload sometime tonight, thanks.
Ultima
You can remove 256x256 icons using some icon editor anyhow -- IcoFX is a freeware if you don't already have one.
iLOL
thanks for all the replies, now i got what you guys mean, yes i'm using XP so the icons obviously won't work ill get ICOFX (never heard of it) quite useful then.btw sorry i didnt mean to be rude in the other post, was simply clearifying my point nothing more.guess ill stick to other icons and if those are redone for XP ill re-download and let you know how it went.
