RenderedToast
Hi all,Have a little problem with uTorrent - actually a big problem. After a nonspecific length of time, it freezes my entire computer (Vista 64 bit SP1) and I have to hard reset to get it back. It's definitely uTorrent doing it, but it doesn't seem to be consuming more memory than it should (peaks at around 18k in Task Manager). Tried running it in XP compatibility mode but the same thing happened. Any assistance much appreciated, really like the interface and it would be a shame to have to switch to something else. DreadWingKnight
Bypass the (stupid) windows disk cache.Preferences - advanced - disk cache. enable the bottom 2 options.
RenderedToast
Done - why don't I want to turn off the other disk caching/reading options above it? Is the Windows design just poorly implemented?
DreadWingKnight
The windows cache does opportunistic caching but is buggy in that it doesn't release the ram when demanded by an app.
RenderedToast
Happened again - this time it occurred while I was simultaneously running Cubase 4, but I had checked Cubase operation before and it wasn't freezing when uTorrent wasn't running. Anything else I can do? Could this be a more general problem with the hard drive or memory?
Firon
A hard lock is more indicative of a hardware fault than anything (overheating, defective part). Drivers can potentially cause it (especially graphics card drivers), but that's a lot less common, since they usually just generate a BSOD.
