I'm about to give up

Ok I got Hughesnet home plan about 10 days ago. I Have the HN9000. Downloaded Ut and found what torrent I wanted. I read setup and anything on here about Hughesnet. I have followed the speedguide. I hit the FAP once. I was seeing dl of 35-50 kb/s regularly. Then last night it I had Ut scheduled to go from 2:00-5:00 and got all of 76 mb in 3 hours.

Today I'm lucky to get 10kb/s. I'm not Fapped. I have no router. From what I have read on here I can't forward my port using hughes. The icon at the bottom turns green once in a while but most the time its the yellow triangle.

I can still hit my allowed 200mb a day if I dl all day and be careful to not go over

I wish the hnfapmon worked with the HN9000.

What I would like to do is maximize my downloads during the FAP freezone 3 hour period.

I have

dl = unlimited

ul = 8kb/s

windows firewall ticked using port 38351 for incoming

max # of connection 75

max peers per torrent 50

upload slots per torrent 3

encrytion enabled

Hughes is my only option other than dialup at half speed. so any help would be appreciated.

Nephilim thx I will read that.

Littlefire DHT is off. Are you saying the resolve IP's should be checked or not checked?

I have encryption enabled haven't tried forced. I haven't tried dis-allow legacy connections.

So Should I go with forced encryption and untick the allow legacy box?

Resolve IPs should be dis-abled (unticked) by default if you normally have your uTorrent open to the Peers tab. If not, meaning you normally look at Speed or General or Trackers... it can stay on, as the DNS packets are only sent when uTorrent has the peerlist up.

The difference between your current encryption settings and the ones I'm suggesting would mean 1) you may lose out on the only peers in a small swarm if they are not able to make encrpted streams 2) sometimes ISPs on their end would interfere with unencrypted streams.

I'm not sure but you may get different speeds if you try http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=34259 Switeck's values.. your main limitation is that you can't forward your port being on HN.

Thanks Littlefire I will try using forced. What about the legacy setting?

the hnfapmon post list is for a different hughes plan than mine. That program also only works with hughes modems up to the 7000 the 9000 is a different beast but I had seen the guy was trying to come up with something for the 9000.

I may also try Switeck's settings.

  • 2 months later...

.....Go back to the hn7000s........

A local service company that i hooked up with thru hughes sold me a 7000s for 25 bucks, brand new.........

I 've had hughesnet for 10 years and had every modem up to the 7000s. im not as tech savvy as the guys on this forum who endlessly help us satellite people out as much as they can. and i only know what ive had to fix with my system.

i found torrents about 2 months ago just after i upgraded to the 7000s. i plugged it in changed no settings, got online and grabbed utorrent installed it, and changed no settings and i hit the hughes throttle cap every night...Only 180 kB/s or whatever the speed is on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen..not sure weather its bit or bytes.......of course i pick thru the torrents and choose higher seeded ones from reputable people... and i download 3.5 gigs worth of video every night.

i have no firewall software or anything and i can turn windows firewall on and off with no change in my speeds...

i read about the new 1.9 beta and people were saying that it might kill the hughes throttling but that isnt true in my case.. its the same as 1.8.. i can click options..then speed guide and change my port numbers and control my speed........i dont know if this is normal but its cool to play with.....my setup likes port 80 and 6000.....80 is a more unstable speed than 6000 meaning it jumps around from medium to fast speed...remembering that 180 is all i have..but it will allow as many downloads as i allow it...with more even speeds per / torrent.....but 6000 will choose one torrent to fly and choke the rest....i can type in port numbers at random from 2 to 5 digits and get diff speeds on each port......u have to allow it a few minutes to see what its gonna do......

im runnin port 6000 tonight and it has 1 at 119 kB/s and 5 others idling at 10 to 14....

i have my connection type set to 256k...the slower speeds seemed to slow me down....

my little checkmark turns from red to yellow to green too...and says dht 287 nodes to the left of it..... people are seeding and uploading from me i guess...the numbers on upload speed changes and it says i uploaded like 500 mb after i finish the 3.5 gigs...

what i do during the day is set 1 going at 3 to 5 and just let it run...i have the 425mb plan and i get fapped all the time!!! but if im not surfing, 3 to 5 will keep up with the buckets refreshing. i remember when i first got the system i could grab a gig in a couple hours during off peak....and the fap rebound time was only 4 hours...not f**kng 24 !!!

hughesnet sux the way they wont let us get our moneys worth...and let me seed at the rates i download....but the pain has dulled for me over the years and now i just deal with it.....

i have not figured out how to use the hnfapmon because i dont know when the day begins for my limits...its not at all fair....

this is only like the 3rd post i have ever done on any site but ive read thousands of hughesnet users post's on many a site and its all bad things!!! AND i hate hughes so much right now i will help any body get the most they can from the cheap bastards.

i almost forgot to tell about the 3am to 6am change for the 7000s users....they opened it to 1am to 6am about a month ago and documented it on the "check usage" page...but after a week i noticed they changed it back to 3am to 6am...but i still get non-fap time for 5 hours a night..

hope this helped...

Did you have the HN9000 system before you went back to the 7000? I just looked at their FAP FAQ and its been changed in the last few days as well. It had said 5 hrs for 7000 users and it would start a 5 hr period for 9000 users in december but now it has changed to

"How is the Fair Access Policy applied during the middle of the night?

Currently, you can use your HughesNet service for several hours during the middle of the night (the "Download Period") with relaxed application of the Fair Access Policy. The actual hours of the Download Period depend on the HughesNet Equipment platform you are using. The hours of unrestricted use shall begin no later than 3:00 AM and end no earlier than 6:00 AM eastern time."
