suparappa
I just upgraded to the stable release of 1.8.1 and ever since about every 5 seconds my upload speed will go way over my upload limit of 35kb/s and hit around 100kb/s. It only happens for a second and then goes back down but then about 5 seconds later it happens again and this just keeps repeating. It's really killing my download speed. Anyone possibly know why this is happening? Thanks.

suparappa
UL limit: 35 UL slots: 25 connections(both): 9000(for max) max active torrents: 20downloads: 5000(for max)net.max_halfopen: 50 and for my computer i have it edited to 80 so it should be fine.this is happening with only 1 torrent running.EDITAlso i just saw that post about local peers not being limited and even though i dont have any i set it to limit local peers. I still have the same problem though.
DreadWingKnight
Ok, what sort of internet connection do you have? Why the hell do you think that 500 upload slots is appropriate for 35kbyte/sec of upload? Why do you think that 9000 peer connections is a good idea? Firon
Set net.max_halfopen to 8, open the Speed Guide and choose xx/384k from the list. Don't screw with the upload slots or connection count.Make sure automatic upload control is disabled as well.
thelittlefire
http://utorrent.com/setup_guide.phpCtrl-G settings close to THIRTY-FIVE KiBps upload (just over xx/256 Kbit) or use Switeck's numbers http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=34259 nearer to xx/320Reset your net.max_halfopen. The point isn't that you CAN have high halfopen... but WHY?
XtR
Hi,I have the same problem but with download too... The speed is so unstable. One moment is 100kb/s the other moment goes down to 45kb/s and this happening all the time.I have 1024kbit upload and my settings are:Max upload: 82Global Max: 200Peers per torrent: 60Upload Slots: 5I reset net.max_halfopen to 8.Any suggestions?Thx
thelittlefire
If you're uploading at 82 consistently... it's the swarm. It's possible even though you CAN upload that high, it shouldn't be so when downloading ... WITH upload @ 82, what happens if you try to download http://slackware.com/torrents/?? If you are hitting the upload cap on your connection, you'll see inefficient/slow downloads as well as erratic speeds.
XtR
When i am seeding is the main problem...I tried the slackware torrents and everything its ok with the download speeds. I mean i have high download speeds but the stability of them is still the problem. From 600kb/s to 300kb/s instantly and then up and again down... I changed the upload limit to 62 but i have the same results.I have norton antivirus 2009 do you think this causes the problems?Do i need to check the disk cache settings from utorrent?thanks for your answer
thelittlefire
So you're downloading is affected while uploading, no matter what? Sounds like traffic shaping indeed or possibly software you mention. If your software is a "traffic monitor" or "packet inspector"... you could try uninstalling it temporarily ... uploading that seeding torrent and downloading slackware again to see if you see a more consistent download. I don't know as I haven't used it.As far as Disk Cache settings, they usually are applicable when you have http://utorrent.com/faq.php#What_does_Disk_Overload_in_the_status_bar_mean.3F or you notice slow throughput while doing other background tasks on your computer. The internal uTorrent Disk Cache uses extra RAM to buffer data, which allows other tasks to complete while not interrupting your download.
suparappa
Well I've tried playing around with my setting and doing what was recommended but i still have the same problem. I even tried downgrading to 1.8 but now i have the same problem with that and i had used 1.8 and earlier versions for a very long time on my settings with no problems what so ever. Here's what it looks like:At this point I'm not sure what to do. thelittlefire
As you see in that picture the cycle is 1 minute compared to your 5-6 second description before. Unfortunately I must go back to my idea about your settings. It could be your connection hits a barrier every minute. It is more likely your .... decision to connect to 640 peers causes excess overhead (~ 7 KiBps) as well as the decisions to optimistically unchoke the number of peers you have set for upload slots is to blame. Use Ctrl-G settings for your connection, reset net.max_halfopen and bt.connect_speed and update with a new picture please.
Switeck
suparappa,You seem to be on Rogers Cable ISP in Canada.BitTorrent traffic gets crippled hard by them...looks like peers you're uploading to are quickly disconnecting and uTorrent's speed averaging method looks like a curved drop-off when it's not.Try the 2nd link in my signature...and use no higher than 512 kilobits/second upload settings as Rogers WILL disrupt even that!Enable or FORCE encryption outgoing. And also try disabling DHT, LPD, and Resolve IPs (right-click in the PEERS window of an active torrent).Half open higher than 8 in uTorrent is wasting your time if your ISP disrupts traffic.
