Utorrent limited to 25-30 kbps.. come what may :(

Hi,

Utorrent 1.8 (and now 1.81) seems to be unable to go beyond 30 kbps of TOTAL download speed, irrespective of the fastest and most widely distributed torrents. If I switch one download off, the others speed up to the extent of the total reaching 30 kbps again but not beyond that.

It does not matter how many downloads are active OR uploads are working. The total download speed does not go beyond 30 kbps.

The network topology is Phone line > Paradyne ADSL2+ bridge/modem > Belkin Wireless G router > My IBM Thinkpad

ISP - TSTT, Blink broadband, Trinidad & Tobago

Troubleshooting attempted so far -

Network hardware -

1.Rebooted both modem & router

2.Swapped network cables

3. Used a wired connection to wireless router

4. Connected directly to the modem

6. Got the router replaced with the same model

5. Firmware on both modem and router is the latest (both were bought in September)

Network configuration -

1. Disabled NAT on modem

2. Disabled firewall on modem

3. Disabled firewall on router

4. Put router on modem's DMZ

5. Put my computer on router's DMZ after assigning it a static IP outside of the DHCP range of the router

6. Set modem in PPP extension mode. The router get the external ISP provided IP address and gateway. This, to my mind, makes my configuration almost like a 1 networking device config and eliminates doublenatting problems.

7. I also asked my ISP to turn off the firewall on my account, which they did. I know they did it because only after that did Utorrent start showing the green tick at the bottom.

8. DHCP - Enabled on modem <moot point since its now in "bridge" mode to the router. Enabled on the router< moo point since Laptop has a static IP outside the router DHCP range>

9. Port - Forwarded port 40720 manually in router to static IP of my laptop.

Operating System (Windows XP/SP3) -

1. Disabled firewall (for a short duration to check, no improvement)

2. Removed and recreated exception in Windows ICF manually for Utorrent

3. Patched tcpip.sys <not too sure, if it worked though, even though the tool said it did>

Utorrent -

1. Disabled UPnP

2. Disabled DHT

3. Set net max half open to 5,8,10,15,20,50,500. It keeps reverting back to 8 (default)

4. Lazy bit field is set to true

5. Resolve country is set to false

6. IP resolving is disabled in Peers tab context menu

7. Deleted settings.dat and settings.dat.old from %appdata%

8. Upgraded to Version 1.81

9. Tried all kinds of upload & upload settings

10. Current settings -

Port 40720

UPnP - disabled

DHT - disabled

Randomize port - disabled

Max upload rate - 15 (tried 0,2,4,5,6,7,10,25,50)

Max download rate - 100 (tried 0,50,75,150,200,250,500)

Global max connections - 75 (tried 20,40,50,100,200,300)

Max conn per torrent - 50 (tried 10,20,30,75,100)

uploads slots per torrent - 3 (tried 1, 5, 10,15)

Enable DHT - disabled (tried with enabled too)

DHT for new torrents - disabled (tried with enabled too)

Local peer discovery - enable

Protocol encryption - enabled (tried disabled & forced - no difference)

Max active torrents - 10 (tried 3,10,15,20)

Max active downloads - 7 (tried same as above)

Tests -

1.Utorrent port test - successful

2.Glasnost test to check if ISP is blocking or shaping torrent traffic - no problems

3.DSLReports speed test -

Latency - 75 ms (multiple tests give similar values between 55 - 100)

Download - 156 Kbps (ranges from 90 - 280 Kbps)

Upload Speed -

4. Virus/Malware tests-

Corporate McAfree AV - updated daily - no infection

Super AntiSpyware - no infection

MBAM - no infection

HijackThis - log appended
