PC completely freezes using µTorrent

Hi! I have windows vista and µtorrent always used to work, but since yesterday my pc freezes each time I'm using it (ater I've used it between 5 and 30 minutes). Also when I use Limewire and Bitcomet I have this problem. Nothing works then, not even the mouse or keyboard. I have an other pc (XP) where it still works, and with the same antivirus (BitDefender).

Get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com, run it, Ctrl+D (to show the lower DLL pane), select the µTorrent process from the list, Ctrl+S (and save the list somewhere you'll find easily -- like the Desktop), then post the contents of the saved process list in the .txt file here.

Well, for one thing, the both of you are using BitDefender and Vista... That's definitely something worth considering. Try uninstalling BitDefender temporarily to see if the problem stops.

If that doesn't help, tell us what network card you're using, what chipset, what modem, what router. And I hope you're using µTorrent 1.8.1.

Well i can say only one thing, Bitefender and Vista are not the major problem cause this configuration with µTorrent im using since 1 year and i never had such a problem with it.

After the update to µTorrent 1.8.1 this problem is going on.

I downloaded now µTorrent 1.7.7 and will try it out. When my PC is freezing again i will post u my Hardware.

If it is BitDefender that's causing the freeze, then it's difficult for the devs to work around the issue, especially when it installs kernel-level drivers (and freezes the entire system abruptly, leaving no time to step through the freezing process).

Do try uninstalling just to confirm that it is the problem -- maybe it'll provide further impetus for the devs to check it out.

Does BitDefender have a HTTP traffic scanner? Internet monitor/filter? P2P filter/scanner?

Yes Bitdefender have a "Real-time" HTTP traffic scanner and a p2p file/network scanner.

I setted both "OFF" now and i hope µTorrent dont freeze my pc.

I will post the result off this settings.

I have the same exact problem but I have nothing running in the background.

I am running Vista Business 64bit. I am one of those hardcore gamers who disables all unnecessary services that would affect my performance in gaming. My computer completely freezes after opening uTorrent for like two minutes. The only processes that I have running under my User Name are explorer.exe and taskeng.exe. I have a total of 25 processes running including System, Network, and Local services, which I think is really low for a Vista computer.

I have no anti-virus/anti-spyware running in the background, though I do have spybot installed that I use once in a while.

I've never had this problem in Windows XP, but I have been getting it after Vista. It could also be the PCI Wireless card that I installed, not sure.

I do NOT have this problem on my laptop that has Vista Home 32bit that is also tweaked for gaming so it has less than 30 services.

Help would be appreciated =)

Multi-core? Did you install drivers for "tuning" or move the utorrent.exe process to one core using the Task Manager?

I have a quad core processor. Drivers for tuning? Are you talking about the windows update for multi core? That should already be installed in vista. My brother also gets this problem on his computer, which has the same processor. Haven't tried using one core for utorrent yet, would be annoying if I had to set it every time in task manager though.

Unfortunately the only "fix" to this is remove software which isn't compatible with uTorrent while it's running :/ Searching, it's usually trial and error in your case, because I see nothing. One running process, that's cute.

Also same problems on same CPU suggests there may be an update, or at least a post on the MFG forum/discussion group, you think?

Well I never had a problem with uTorrent on XP. Not too sure that it could be the processor that's causing problems. The only thing I can think of now is Vista 64bit or Wireless Card problem since me and my brother have the same wireless card and are both running Vista Business 64bit.

After i setted "Real-time" HTTP traffic scanner and p2p file/network scanner "OFF" my pc freezes again..... and i uninstalled Bitdefender.

Well my pc didnt freeze since i uninstalled Bitdefender (12 hours), so i installed Bitdefender again and what did happen then ...... my pc freezes again.

I get so angry ..... at least I phoned to the technical support of Bitdefender and explained the problem, they just say that they know about this problem and i should downgrade my Bitdefender 2009 to Bitdefender 2008 till they resolve this problem.

.... i did that and my pc do not freeze now
