diomedes
Previously I had received some support with the yellow icon at the bottom of the utorrent client. Always the updating of utorrent has helped (each time from 1.6 to 1.8, and from 1.8 to 1.8.1).All things considered, 1.8.1 works much better and tends to avoid the issue. It's been close to a week since it bothered me. Today i had to restart the pc to do some troubleshooting on an unrelated issue, upon restart the (!) came back and i can't seem to get rid of it. Tried restarting the client with no luck. Before i had restarted the pc, utorrent functioned pretty good for a very long time. For all i know, it might go away, but id like to make it leave sooner if possible.thanks
DreadWingKnight
What internet security software do you have installed?
diomedes
Just went online to add those details, realized i left that out:Windows xp default firewall, sometimes it's off, usually on. I think i have spybot installed, though i don't think it functions as a firewall. Occasionally it asks me to allow certain default activities to be allowed to access the internet when they are new/installed, and as far as i know, utorrent was allowed. DreadWingKnight
Do you have a router? If so what model? What model modem do you have?
diomedes
SMC router.Speedtouch modem.update: I was out for a few hours, upon returning, the (!) resolved itself, though it would have taken at least 40 minutes to do so after pc startup, which i do not think is typical.note - Maybe you can advise me DreadWingKnight before i create a seperate thread: Recently I bought a Linksys Router WRT54GL in hopes of creating MLPPP with a 2nd DSL line. I have read around that that particular linksys router is potentially incompatible with utorrent. From what i understood, it needs to be a v5 which means nothing to me, as that is not detailed on the router itself.
DreadWingKnight
The GL is actually one of the more compatible routers of the WRT54G line.
diomedes
By "more compatible" you mean compatible with utorrent right? That would be a relief. What about utorrent being so deliberate about shaking off the (!) icon? 40 minutes after startup seems unusual to me. Any strategies on dealing with it? DreadWingKnight
Port forwarding and using intelligent internet security software properly configured will speed it up.
Firon
Have you tried using the port tester? Yellow is an indeterminate state that happens when there are no incoming connections. It may not necessarily indicate there's a problem.
diomedes
I'll try the port tester, though i've never used it before. Where can it be found? As for forwarding ports properly, can i get an explanation on that, i don't know much about it.I'm kind of losing it here:Today i rebooted my computer because i noticed utorretn was completely underperforming. Where i expect a transfer rate of at least 200 k, i had something like 20. I rebooted, and it got worse! And the (!) repaired itself right when utorrent turned on. I can't connect to peers, the green icon is there and getting virtually no transfers.
moogly
Port tester: ctrl+g (Speed Guide) then "test" button.orhttp://www.utorrent.com/testport.php?port=XXXXX where XXXXX is the port number.
diomedes
I spent about an hour figuring this port forwarding stuff out and i just can't do, i would really appreciate some help:router SMC Barricade SMC 2804WBRthis and this made sense. I went through the whole thing and i run the port test and it says it does no appear to be properly configured, still. My NAT virtual server page when i log into the router looks different from the above router config page, but i put values where they should go and hit apply. All that happens is the page acts like it refreshes, i can't tell if it acknowledged it or processed it. In other words, i can't tell if this last step worked or not.Should i reboot immediately after making the changes? And to top it off, utorrent is continuing to give me extremely mixed signals: the green icon on the bottom of the page is there after a recent reboot while twidling with the above. Thing is, before the reboot i had only one torrent connecting, everything else was not trasnfering. After the reboot the green icon was still there, but now the single torrent that was functioning before the reboot no longer works at all, and the ones that previously were inactive appear to function. Please help.
