amdrescher
Hi all, I have a NAS drive attached to my network where a stand-a-lone PC downloads torrents to with Utorrent. However, i keep getting the following error Error: "Specified network name no longer available" (which is regarding the network share on my network) the odd thing is that nothing specific triggers this it just comes up every 5- 10 minutes. And Utorrent is the only application to notice such an error, i can always browse the network drive even when Utorrent says its "no longer available" Any bright ideas? Firon
It might be temporarily dropping out.Are you sure utorrent is actually pointing to the correct IP?
agenthex
This happens to me too. No other app has this problem. The network target is a windows share (usb drive) on another computer (vista (torrenting) -> xp (storage) ). I tried turning off caching since I thought the drive might be sleeping after periods of inactivity, no effect.
Munrobasher
Exactly the same here - very repeatable connected to Windows 2003 file server. I can be copying files using robocopy across the network whilst utorrent is downloading and it reports the error. robocopy carries on copying in the meantime. I happens when I'm wired or wireless. Therefore, I have to download to a local hard disk. I've seen the same effect on a completely different network as well.Rob. junglefrenzy
Hi,I had this same issue too. I suspect you are running on a Windows box to download. You will also probably see that at the time the download drops (also stops seeding) that the following will be logged in the system event log:Error 4226: TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrernt TCP connection attempts. If this is the case then you will need to patch the TCP/IP file using this:http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads#4226patch(This may only work on Windows XP SP2 and SP3 - I have not tested on Vista)
Switeck
You running uTorrent v1.8.1?...or an earlier version?
junglefrenzy
Actually running bit torrent but since this post made me think of the solution I thought I would post my findings. In addition my windows 2003 server still dropped the connection because it thinks the torrent machine is performing a DOS attack. I fixed this also by following the MS article:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898468Apologies if this is not relevant for Utorrent however I thought it was worth a try. Firon
Why even bother running BT6? It's just a rebranded, outdated µTorrent...I actually wouldn't have thought of that page as a solution though.
Switeck
Was uTorrent's advanced setting net.max_halfopen set higher than the default of 8?That's about the only thing I can think of that might trigger the server message....Unless there really is an aggressive virus on one of the computers. hotkey
I'm getting this error message and the same symptoms - erratic dropping downloading to nas. I don't find any resolutions on the forum. Does someone have he answer?
Switeck
Are you attempting to access it through a wireless connection?
hotkey
Well - yes and no and maybe that's the issue. I use a laptop that connects with wireless but I also have a hard wired Ethernet cable connection as well. Maybe disable wireless and try with just hard wire? CubanMissile
I also am having the same issue but I did not appear for me until I upgraded to utorrent 2.0I am torrenting from a Windows XP Pro SP3 system into a network share on a Vista Home SP2 box that is currently acting as my media center. I used to get Event ID error 4226, until I patched TCP/IP on the XP system to allow for 500 open connections. It is my understanding that this is not necessary for the Vista system since SP2 defaults to unlimited connections now. I no longer get the Event ID errors, but the problem still exists. And yes, the XP system is wireless while the Vista machine is wired directly to the router. Unfortunately, wiring the XP system is not possible for me due to several factors. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated since it is a terrible inconvenience to have to constantly check and restart torrents.

Adaptabilitynessless
Similar issue with CubanMissile crisis. Wired to NAS. Get the network error message when computer wakes up from sleep mode and have to manually restart torrents. Didn't have this problem with earlier version.Any advanced settings that might resolve this or a fix/patch coming ?Thx.
DreadWingKnight
It's a problem inherent with NAS devices. It's beyond the scope of any hack we could put in to fix it.
