wwryyyyy
When I add a new torrent. If I select "Skip hash check" but I forget it.How can I know it in µTorrent? And how can I cancel "Skip hash check"?
DreadWingKnight
Skip hash check is only for new seeders who JUST made the torrent. You should not be using it on downloads. To re-do the hash check, stop, right-click, force re-check, start.
wwryyyyy
So, If I select it, I can't know that in µTorrent?
DreadWingKnight
The skip hash check only happens at the start of the torrent. It doesn't prevent the download-time hashing on a download.
wwryyyyy
Thanks. I understanded. So when I stop and then start the download, the download will redo "hash check", right?
Tpiom
That check is SO annoying... Especially when you've a 102 GB file! You should REALLY make a function to skip that!
DreadWingKnight
It's called "let uTorrent shut down gracefully"
Tpiom
Well, it's not that easy to controll if the program crashes or any other stupid reason.
thelittlefire
... if it crashes, FIX the problem which causes the crashes?
Lord Alderaan
The hash-check isn't a problem its a solution. Its a fix for corrupt data when µtorrent crashes or doesn't shutdown gracefully. It's like saying you should just be able to walk around without a cast when you break a leg. If you would do that it is gonna do a lot of damage to the tissue and blood vessels around the broken bone. Same goes for the hash-check.
Tpiom
How should I fix the problem, it's called BUGS and it's closed source! And your example was... really bad. On your leg it's certain that you'll damage your body if it's not given treatment - but it's not the same with utorrent. Do the damn harsh check when the download is complete instead (and download/repair the rest when it's needed).
DreadWingKnight
It's also called unstable drivers and conflicting software (read: the piece of junk zonealarm).Post a hijackthis log and process explorer process list with dll list for the uTorrent.exe process in a troubleshooting thread. thelittlefire
Bittorrent checks during download. There is no reason for an optional/auto hash check at the end.Fix what's causing the problems. BSOD? What firewall are you using? How do you get internet? Wireless-- update drivers. USB... don't. Or set your connection lower. Tangent to DWK's suggestion Ctrl-P > Advanced > bt.graceful_shutdown ... though it won't matter when your computer dies in the middle of saving the file. You really need to make a thread in Troubleshooting, follow http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992 and provide the requested information. There isn't a problem with uTorrent or it wouldn't have been left to YOU to find the "bug", heh.
Firon
When your computer crashes, utorrent hash checks the data on next boot because it has no way of knowing if the OS actually wrote all the data properly to disk.
Lord Alderaan
@Tpiom: If you have bad data end send that out to other peers that is bad too. In fact it could get you banned with a lot of peers which might make it impossible to complete the torrent or to seed back to a decent ratio. As to fixing the problem. 99,9% of the crashes are caused by a combination of µtorrent with something else (virusscan, firewall, drivers, hardware, etc) and the problem can often be solved without having to wait for a new µtorrent release with a fix because in the great majority of the cases the 'something else' is the prime cause.
