EerFoolWVU Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 I'm using a Verizon FIOS 20/20, but can't seem to get much above 10% of that bandwidth usable in bittorrent. Is this due to Verizon using traffic shaping and throttling their connections for torrents? I have encryption enabled but I know that's not 100% effective. When I do bandwidth tests I get 21 MB/s down and 18.9 MB/s up.Is there any way for me to fix it or should I just save myself a few bucks and drop my plan down to the 20/5 FIOS line?
Firon Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 20mbit = 2.5mbyte/s. (1mbit = 1/8 mbyte)Due to overhead, the actual max you can reach is slightly lower. You are in fact actually at the physical limit of your connection.
EerFoolWVU Posted October 17, 2008 Author Report Posted October 17, 2008 Damn, I didn't even think about the whole megabyte/megabit thing.Well that was a lot simpler than I expected...thanks for the help!
Switeck Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 If you downgrade your line, your current uTorrent settings will probably need some major changes. You'd be going from a potential upload of just over 2 MB/sec to maybe 500-600 KB/sec.
