strotee Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Preface: I apologize if this is a duplicate bug/thread, please delete if so. (I looked at the thread titles of the 1st page only)I have found inconsistent column alignments on the main window. Some columns are aligned Left and some are Right. It would seem Right is the default (or what I'm used to). It's when I find Left aligned columns does it seem "off", perhaps this is intentional but I think a consistent alignment is what was intended. I have attached a pic for better understanding.Thanks.Also, here is a list of the Left aligned columns:CodecFormatEpisodeSource URLElapsedLast ActiveDebugTracker StatusBw.AllocTrackerCompleted OnAdded OnLabelETAStatus
Firon Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Left alignment is for columns that aren't purely numerical information. It'd look weird on dates (and by extension, ETA), as well as text-based columns.
Ultima Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 The point behind right-alignment for numerical data is that the units and decimals line up, making it much clearer and easier to read. Right-aligning everything makes even less sense -- most Western languages are left-to-right, so reading text left-to-right while the text is right-aligned would be rather awkward.
strotee Posted October 23, 2008 Author Report Posted October 23, 2008 Ah, that makes sense. My biggest concern was just to see if it was intended or overlooked on accident. Thanks for taking the time to explain it in more detail.
