fppeater Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 I have Zone Alarm, vista premium, and a HP entertainment computer. Utorrent drops my connection regularly. How do i reconnect my internet connection without rebooting my entire system. When i attempt to reconnect it will fail, diaganose will not help. The only way is to restart. Will closing Zone alarm solve this problem. I do not want to remove Zone alram completly from my system, but would dissable it for a period of time. (will that help)Will closing zone alarm also help me in closing utorrent, as i cannont end the process or when i do close utorrent, then try to restart utorrent it will not as 'utorrent is already running' when it clearly is not, or not responding.
GTHK Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 The problem here is that ZA connects to parts of the system (hooks) inappropriately, and because of its bugs it creates bugs in Windows and other programs (including stopping µT from closing). Uninstall ZA, as closing it doesn't remove its hooks.Vista's built in firewall has been improved and is usable, but if you prefer a third party firewall, Comodo Firewall Pro is free and quite powerful.
fppeater Posted October 31, 2008 Author Report Posted October 31, 2008 I need to find a way to work around zone alram. I will not remove it. How do i reestablish a connection without rebooting.

Why bother with silly "workarounds" for such a broken firewall when you can use another freely available firewall that's superior to ZA and doesn't require you to disable it to work without a hitch? The point behind a firewall is to have it protect you continuously. If you need to take it down regularly, it's about as good as using a leaky bucket to transport water.http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=258231#p258231
