Any and ALL trackers appear "offline (timed out) ALL the time.

Ok I've had this problem with all of the torrent programs I've used. It all started with bittorrent, then I moved to utorrent to no avail. After that I tried Azureus and while it worked fine for a while now it's doing the same thing. Now I'm back to utorrent seeing that many more people recommend it.

As my thread title states the torrents display the error "offline". This happens with all trackers from popular public ones to exclusive private trackers and even with trackers such as openoffice and slackware.

Here is some info which you might find relevant.

1) EVERYTHING I've tried so far:

lowered net.max_halfopen to 6

disabled IP resolving in the Peers tab's context menu

disabled DHT (both Enable DHT network and Enable DHT for new torrents)

disabled UPnP and NAT-PMP

set peer.resolve_country to false

lowered maximum global number of connections to 200 from it's original 450

Patched TCPIP

2)"Color of the network status light in µTorrent's status bar (at the bottom of the µTorrent main window)"

I don't have a network status light in utorrent's status bar. I do however have red arrows pointing downwards on the left of every torrent I try to download.

3) Here is what my port checker says:

Checking port 42943 on 208.93.86.84...

OK! Port 42943 is open and accepting connections.

You will be able to receive incoming BitTorrent connections.

4)Here is the info from my speed guide settings:

Upload Limit: 72 kB/s

Connections (per torrent): 100

Max active torrents: 5

Upload Slots: 5

Connections (global): 200

Max Active Downloads: 4

5) Operating System:

Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP2

6) Security Installed:

Antivirus: NOD32 2.7 with utorrent excluded in IMON

Firewall: Windows Firewall disabled. I've tried it both ways; when enabled utorrent is set as an exception.

7) No router only modem.

Modem: Motorola SB5101 Surfboard Cable Modem

8) Connection Type and Speed:

Type: Cable

Speed as reported by dslreports:

2074.png

Anything else you guys want to know all you have to do is ask. I really hope someone can help me with this problem because everything that I have done on my own hasn't helped at all :(

Your... numbers are too high. Use xx/512. If you force-quite btdna.exe does the problem persist. Given the nature currently of the BitTorrent (mainline) being both uTorrent and including DNA which is a headless uT that may be causing problems if you do alot of the DNA acceleration.

Edit: What version of uT, Alt-H-A to find the build number please.

Ok I changed my speed to xx512. All your other talk about btdna.exe confused me though. Changing the speed did not help :( the trackers still show as offline.

Also my version of uT is 1.8.1 (build 12639)

Ok I uninstalled DNA, restarted, opened utorrent again, let it sit there a while so that the trackers could update but they still show up as offline. I'm desperate at this point and I'm beginning to think that I'll never get this fixed. I'm willing to try out anything you guys suggest but I don't know how much longer I can put up with this...

@Ultima: I'm almost completely sure that it's not malware. It's a program that makes my drives under "My Computer" show up as the Vista drives do.

Here is what they look like:

mycomp.jpg

And here is the folder in which the icons are located:

vistadrive.jpg

Regardless I have now removed it but it did not solve the problem.

@ Yehhanyos2008: I'm also fairly positive that my isp is not blocking my access because they are not in "known isps that block torrent traffic lists" that I've found throughout the internet.

And also I've done testing through http://broadband.mpi-sws.org/transparency/bttest.php and it says that both "well known bittorrent ports and non bittorrent ports" are not blocked by my isp.

Any more ideas guys?

I've got the same problem, everything worked fine, could download torrents at good speed, and then all of the sudden all the torrents i added was all shown as offline, didnt even restart the computer, one second everything worked and then all new torrents i added was "red". The torrents i downloaded before it stopped working can still download and upload, but the up or down arrow shown before the torrents names are red. Seems like i cant connect to any new peers. Also i dont use any router, only modem.

@Ultima: When I did a WhoIs search on my IP address here is some of the more relevant stuff (I think) that showed up as my isp provider:

OrgName: Ripley Video Cable Company, Inc.

NetRange: 208.93.80.0 - 208.93.87.255

NetName: RIPLEYCABLE-NET

NameServer: NSA.IBBSONLINE.COM

Also I'm running a customized version of win xp which could have been built with nLite but I didn't do any of the customizing myself so I don't really know what was removed or kept. It was supposedly customized for better performance. Maybe something that should be there isn't?

@Agaden: Sounds very much like my problem. Have you tried to optimize your client with all the guides around here?

Go back to 1.8.1 and try clearing out settings.dat and settings.dat.old from %AppData%\uTorrent. Obviously, delete those before starting ut.

Did you also try netsh winsock reset ?

Agaden, downgrading is not an option. Apart from various bugs on Vista and other stuff, there's security holes in 1.7.7. Go back to 1.8.1 and try the same steps I suggested.

@Firon: Ok did that as I've done it before then went on to optimize it again with the guides but to no avail.

Also I did a try netsh winsock reset but that didn't help either.

Maybe downgrading will help :P Just kidding! I'm open to more suggestions :)

@Agaden: I had tried it before yes and it didn't work then. I tried it again today even deleting all the app data but that didn't help either.

@Firon: Is there anything you would look for that could tell me if something required for torrenting is missing? I can provide logs of pretty much anything on my computer so if you need more information please do ask.

Formatting and installing another more stable OS will be my last resort.

Hi,

i've exactly the same problem. My torrents are always offline. This is arrived 2 or 3 days ago. I don't know why. before, it's work perfectly. My modem has not change, my firewaal is ok, i've tested my hard drive with anti-virus and anti-spyware.

I don't want to format my drive if it's possible.

PS: scuse my english, i've study it in many years ago.

@Ultima: Ok tried lowering to 2 from 4... restarted uTorrent. Let the trackers update and then they went offline again.

Also I just noticed this but when I click on a torrent link and windows asks me whether I want to "open it or save it" I see that it's called a "Vuze" link. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the problem at hand. Well here is a screenshot of what I'm talking about along with a clue as to what I'm downloading to test out the client.

IT WORK !

I've update my anti-spyware to spyware doctor 6.0.0.835, and it found some trojans. I've delete them.

Then i update my windows (before i was on xp sp3 with september updates). After a big cleaning in my drive ( uninstall old programs, addware, toolsbars and apply a registry cleaner) and a reboot, it work !

thanks all for your help.
