Question about ipfilter.dat

I've just installed ipfilter.dat. I put it in my appdata/utorrent folder and set it to 'enable' in utorrent. Is there anything else I need to do to make sure it's working? And does it update automatically, or do I have to do something to get it to update?

There are several options mentioned on the forum for "updating" the blocklist. When you update it all you require in the uT is to right click, reload ipfilter.

You may need to turn on Verbose logging to see the "loaded __" IP messages for the blocklist load to verify it's working.

That being said, if you're trying to use ipfilter as a replacement for peerguardian, you might as well not bother. Those blocklists are pretty much useless and won't protect you in the least.

For some reason, PeerGuardian2 kept crashing on my computer, so I started using the IPfilter files recommended by PeerGuardian2 (they work in uTorrent). The problem is that they are very far out of date and will block newer IP allocations.

ipfilter.dat is only useful against poisoner ips, not monitoring ips.

Monitoring ips can get your ip from trackers (and other peers on public torrents), they don't have to connect to you.
