the_punisher
Hello,Ive done all the settings as directed by the guides and i have that green symbol at the bottom. my ports are open but i dont know why i keep getting slow speeds.I download axxo torrents and everyone knows that they have seeders in the thousands and i used to get speeds of 50 kbps but recently while downloading the same torrents i get 7 to 10 kbps.but when i downloaded the latest ubuntu 8.10 that released on 30 th october i was getting speeds of 52kbps.Can some one pl help me out here. a 700mb file takes days to download and what is the concept of seeders "connecting"? and how would i know that? like my seeders are like this 21(789)???update:k so another thing i noticed is and would like to update:Im downloading an axxo torrent that has an availability of 10.994I have seeders of 9(10026) I guess that means that i am only connected to 9 seeders out of 10,000!!!!! why is that?and my peers are 4(14145)WHY WHY WHY :'(
the_punisher
9(10026) seeds and 4(14145) peers - Why does this happen???Why out of thousands of seeders only 9 are connected?? Thats why i get such slow speeds..What can be at fault here? :?

the_punisher
thanks but I have followed the firts link already and i dont know what to do with the second link.??Like max torr connections and max upload slot.. how do i eben change these, there is no option for them in the preferences..# EVERYTHING you've tried so far, including ANYTHING listed above (please be as explicit and specific as you can). Switeck
Your upload, according to that speed test is only 100 kilobits/second.So use either 92 or 128 kilobit/second upload-based settings from my alternate Speed Guide chart (2nd link in my signature). If you disable DHT, LPD, and Resolve IPs (right-click in PEERS window of an active torrent to disable), then you can probably use the 128 kilobit/second upload-based settings ok. the_punisher
Thx for the tips switeck but I have done as you say and My speeds still suck. My browser of ftp downloads easily reach 50kbps so then why not torrents? So just to see if the current file i am downloading may be bad. I downloaded another very popular torrent which has 5000 seeders but out of 5000 i am only connecting to 7..... Why is that? Can this be the reason? if so how do I solve 7(5432)??? thelittlefire
Your ISP doesn't like bittorrent transfers.Connected peers doesn't make your speed better. However there MAY be a problem if it's always 7 DIFFERENT peers every minute; that's not enough time to get much data from an specific peer before things happen. There's only so much you can do. Try something drastic. Set 10 connections TOTAL and only run 1 torrent. Do you still have problems with peers disconnecting and speeds being non-constant? the_punisher
Thx for the prompt reply little fire but setting max connections yo 10 did not help. The speed still sucks. And my ISP is not at fault. My friend who lives nearby has the same ISP and he gets 50 to 55 kbps on torrents......sigh..... Switeck
Are you?:1.never making connections in the first place,2.connections disconnect quickly,3.connections sit idle,4.connections only transfer VERY slowly each. This is peer/seed connections for each torrent. the_punisher
Im sorry for the n00b question but how do i find out about the stuff you asked here?Like from where can i see how many connections or if they dc quickly? or how much each connection transfers? Switeck
Peers tab for while they're connected.Logger tab for when they disconnect. (You may need to right-click in that window and turn on logging of connections.)Mostly it's just to confirm if your problem is constant disconnects (either bad connection or hostile ISP) or very bad speeds from peers/seeds (typically ISP throttling.) the_punisher
Thx, but I had then figured it out and have set my connections as per your table. Most of my peers just sit idle, only 1 or 2 of them download at slow speeds. Here is a screenshot of my peers tabHere is the link to full screen screen shot: http://i37.tinypic.com/swe98y.jpg
thelittlefire
I was about to suggest using encryption... in that screenshot you don't have many encrypted peers. What happens if you try forced encryption and dis-allow legacy connections?
Switeck
Disable DHT (both kinds), LPD, and Resolve IPs (right-click in PEERS window of an active torrent to disable.)Limit regular upload speed max limit to 10 KB/sec OR LESS...if you haven't already.(The alternate upload speed limit may be a little higher, such as 12 KB/sec...but it's not really necessary to set that.)It is unreasonable to expect on every torrent to download much faster than you upload...someone has to be doing the reverse! So sometimes you may only be downloading 60-150% of your upload speed.Encryption settings might help. Outgoing encryption FORCED, incoming legacy...try both enabled for awhile then disabled and see which one seems better.

Switeck
Try "Level 5" encryption:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=361747#p361747...Or a VPN.Can you check using a 3rd party bandwidth monitoring program that nothing else is tying up your computer/connection? the_punisher
k so before i try that.My isp does not hate torrents, like i mentioned in my first post: my friends are also connected to the same ISP and they get a stable 50kbps for ALL torrents.also im sure nothing else is stealing my bandwith cause when i download from the internet, like ftp. I get a constant and stable speed of 53 kbps.Edit: While browsing mininova.com I saw some one giving a list of trackers. He said to add these trackers to your torrent and you will get better speeds. So I did so and now im getting speeds of 40kbps to 44 kbps.So does this mean anything? here are the trackers:http://tv.tracker.prq.to/announcehttp://ictorrent.com:2710/000008eef29e07732da69b9539239720/announcehttp://open.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announcehttp://vip.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announcehttp://tracker.prq.to/announcehttp://tpb.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announcehttp://tracker.bittorrent.am/announce
Switeck
Almost certainly incidental. However in your earlier Peer list, some of the peers are from ISPs that make yours look great. If you're getting 20+ peers+seeds, you should be able to download at least as fast as you're uploading.
