KaiserZr Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 Ok I can't get a green check mark to save my life. I own a linksys WRT54G router and a Speedstream 4400 dsl bridge/router... I need to keep the router in the chain for wireless reasons, but I have the 4400 set to bridge mode to disable routing from it. I have my port forwarding set up properly according to portforward.com, but no matter which port I use I can't get utorrent to recognize the port as open according to the test it has (and the red exclamation mark at the bottom of the program). I have tried various ports in the 50000-60000 range. My ISP is windstream and from what I have researched they don't throttle p2p and torrent packets. Any suggestions?
GTHK Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 Setup a static IPa outside the routers DHCP range: http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htmDefault range is 192.168.1.100-192.168.1.149. If that doesn't work go to Status and get the Internet IP address, post the first two octets (eg 208.67.x.x).Oh, and what does the red icon say when you put your mouse over it?
KaiserZr Posted November 7, 2008 Author Report Posted November 7, 2008 I tried setting up a static ip address, and I get the same results...Internet IP address: 162.39.x.xas for the icon, it says there is a router/firewall limiting my network traffic and that I need to open a port
GTHK Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 Did you do it outside the routers DHCP range? Can you define your network topology? (Ex. Cable Modem [WebSTAR DPC2100R2] > Wireless Router [Linksys WRT54G] > Computers and stuff. What hardware version is the router? What firmware version? Hardware version is on a sticker on the underside, firmware version is on the routers website. What firewall/anti-virus software are you using?
KaiserZr Posted November 7, 2008 Author Report Posted November 7, 2008 yes, I set my computer's ip to 192.168.1.2as for my topology... DSL modem (speedstream 4400 in bridgemode) >> Wireless Router [Linksys WRT54G] >> 2 computers connected directly to the router with straight through ethernet cables (including mine), and one computer connected wirelesslythe router hardware version is v5the firmware is v.1.02.5I use Avast anti-virus software (home edition)
GTHK Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 Did you disable UPnP in µT before doing the forward manually? V5 of our router sucks
GTHK Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 What firewalls did you used to have? ZA? Norton? What does a port forward test say when you try it?
KaiserZr Posted November 7, 2008 Author Report Posted November 7, 2008 I do not have any software firewalls at the moment, and I have shutdown the service for the windows one...as for the port forward test it says that port 64000 (the one I am using) is closed
GTHK Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 Does it work when you bypass the router temporarily (you'll need to go back to automatic addressing)?
KaiserZr Posted November 7, 2008 Author Report Posted November 7, 2008 If I remove my router I lose all dhcp and routing services, my modem is in bridgemode, I can't even configure it from its web interface so the answer is no it doesn't work
GTHK Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 You had to configure your router with an IP address manually?
KaiserZr Posted November 7, 2008 Author Report Posted November 7, 2008 no, but when I remove my router and connect the modem directly to my computer for some reason it won't acquire an IP address from the modem
GTHK Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 Ah, did you reset the modem after connecting the PC? ISP's tend to require that before the new compy can get assigned.
KaiserZr Posted November 10, 2008 Author Report Posted November 10, 2008 ok I did all that, and it still says the ports aren't opened, that is with and without dmz being configured and pointed to my computer, udp being used, and trying manual port forwarding on the modem...also the firewall on the modem is turned off
GTHK Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 Soooooo what you're saying is that even connected to the modem and trying to port forward on the modem it still doesn't work? What IP addy did your computer get assigned?
GTHK Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 Not bridging the modem anymore? Does the modem have an Internet/WAN IP address listed? Can you screenshot the port forwarding pages and place them on imageshack.us?
KaiserZr Posted November 10, 2008 Author Report Posted November 10, 2008 I stopped bridging the modem since I can't do any configuring to it. Yes the modem has a wan ip listed at 162.39.150.24 and as for an image of the port fowarding pages, here is a link http://img230.imageshack.us/my.php?image=portforwardnm9.png
GTHK Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 Do you have UPnP disabled in µT? What does this page say? https://www.grc.com/x/portprobe=55555Does your Internet work, but the port remain closed when you are connected directly to the modem and have it bridged?
KaiserZr Posted November 10, 2008 Author Report Posted November 10, 2008 UPnP is disabled, and the page says that port 55555 is stealthed...also my internet does not work when the modem is bridged (I can't get an ip address)
GTHK Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 Even after powercycling the modem? Are you using PPPoA/PPPoE in the Linksys? Also, try removing the portforwards. Go to the logger tab in µT, right-click in it and turn on Verbose Logging > Log UPnP Messages, and Error Logging > Log UPnP Errors. Make sure UPnP is on in the modem, turn it on in µTorrent, and if it's successful it should finish in no more then 10 seconds. Copy and paste the logged data regardless of success/failure here.

GTHK Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 When disabling the firewall, be sure to do it first from Network Connections :|
