PC crashes - Sticky didn't help

I'm letting my pc powered on tonight and check if it still gives a problem. If so...I'll try the patch.

What does max halfopen do actually? Would like to know what something is when having a problem . What does the patch do, It raises the max half-open value but what's it exactly?

If I still have problems after that I'll uninstall AVG for a while.

Windows has a limit on half-open TCP connections, it's 10. The limiter in µTorrent insures you don't reach that limit, as once you do, well, not entirely sure but with torrenting it prevents web browsers and stuff from making new connections. All existing connections like IM will remain but if you try to say go to a new website, timeout.

I believe I read on this forum that once at the limit you can only make a new connection attempt once per second (everything gets in line so to speak). Some firewalls and such can cause interference with connection making.

It froze again last night, Searching some other antivirus/spyware etc. now and uninstall AVG.

For free firewall, use Comodo Firewall Pro.

For AV, you can use Kaspersky (only the AV).

Checked the help area where the logs linked me to. It told me told type Netstat -no in CMD, look for an process with SYN_SENT, write down the PID. Then open Task manager -> processes and search for the process with the matching PID and close that one. BUT that process is...Utorrent. :S

I just picked some things and I guess it covers everything up, Removed AVG but Utorrent still freezing.

Patched to 100, still freezing.

Can you run chkdsk? It'll take time on a big drive but, not sure what else (start > run > chkdsk C: /r). Is the system running hot? Have you run a memory test? Can you try SpeedFan? Did you update the video driver or whatever it was I said caused the other crash?

System is 40-42 °C and CPU 19-24°C, Don't think that is too hot. Currently updating videodriver, noticed I missed the last one. I'll post the results tomorrow.

Yeah it's not too bad.. core temp? HDD temps? Especially right before the freezing. It's just freezing right? Not crashes? Might want to poke around the Event Viewer again, system section

Maybe a MemTest86+ run as well (also takes time). Nobody is saying anything about other software in your logs so I'm poking at hardware, bad hardware can cause freezes/crashes

I havo no idea about those. But my system never goes above 45°C and CPU 25°C. I'm not sure if there's a sensor on my HDD, used SpeedFan once but from what I can remember it said 156°C or something, which is hard to believe.

I'll run the MemTest tomorrow when I'm at school.

Not quite sure if it could be my hardware, checking drivers/compatibility problems thoroughly now.

The freeze (no BSOD or whatsoever) only occurs when using Utorrent, PC has been on for 8 hours today without crashing and I'm not using Utorrent.

No TCP/IP errors, no freezes today + didn't use Utorrent. Got quite a few DCOM errors though, above average :S

µTorrent is user-mode software, which means it's only exposing an issue, not causing it

Maybe the testing will turn up something. And HDD max op temperatures are usually 54°C ish, so maybe the sensor was bust or something. If the drive is newer and includes S.M.A.R.T it probably has a sensor.

CHKDSK didn't find any errors, neither did memtest.

Ran Utorrent for a while and pc froze again.

Will check HDD soon.

Update on drive:

The average temperature for this hard disk is 37C (MIN=27C MAX=48C) and yours is 34C.

Nothing wrong with HDD, that's what http://www.hddstatus.com/hdrepanalysis.php says atleast.

You think? As it similar to the windows desktop but with a lot of other options.. I'll see tomorrow, letting PC on tonight with new Utorrent configurations. Max upload speed etc.

Settings changed according to that topic, Did a few speedtests on several sites.

Average download was around 700kbps, changed the settings 600kbps ones. At 3AM it froze again. No error in the Event viewer.

MemTest86+ has not found any errors. What's next..?

Been a while btw since I saw a TCP/IP error in event viewer, it doesn't update every freeze.

edit:

At another site they said I had to scan a .dll file in system32 folder. After I did that it didn't freeze for 2 days straight. Came home and went on the web and it started all over..

If you can't keep it stable with the current setup, try reducing the active programs. It's possible it's something related to the services you have running, or.. programs in the background. Like others I don't see anything obvious so I'd do 1 or 2 at a time until the problem goes away, then re-enable the last disabled program to see whether it re-manifests. You can access services from start > run > services.msc and of course stop any running programs from task manager or disable them with a tool like autoruns from http://sysinternals.com :/

it also froze with just utorrent, and security programs. Got about 40 processes back when I tested.

At another forum they saw the problem, it all worked great after that. But as soon as I opened Opera ONCE it all started over. Waiting for them to respond again, after 2 days yet to get an answer but they're busy I suppose, so I'll wait .

Maybe you need to reinstall your OS with fresh drivers and all the updates. no ?

That's what I've been thinking about a while BUT 1. Don't have CDs, 2. Don't have all installation files for the programs I got now.

And I'm quite sure it's some malware or anything in a .dll file which causes it.
