Lillebror Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 I don't know what I might have done, but somehow uTorrent has suddenly started to lag down the whole system when I download. It doesn't matter how much really, it just makes everything slower. Even the actual mouse lags. This only happens when I download, not when I'm uploading. And also, every time I close uTorrent and re-opens it, it has to re-check every downloading file - something it didn't had to do before.I have the latest version and I've tried with both a new torrent client and by re-installing uTorrent, but nothing works. Could it be my processor that's malfunctioning or something? It seems to work fine in everything else I do on the computer...Thanks in advance!
GTHK Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 Did you try watching Task Manager to see what programs are running? What OS? Check your Device Manager, find your drive controllers and check the current transfer mode.
Ultima Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 Start > Run > devmgmt.mscMake sure your IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' connected devices are currently in DMA transfer mode.
Lillebror Posted November 19, 2008 Author Report Posted November 19, 2008 How do I check if they are in DMA transfer mode?
Lillebror Posted November 24, 2008 Author Report Posted November 24, 2008 I did that, but it didn't made me any wiser. Where exactly in the properties "menu"?
Firon Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 the "Advanced Settings" tab should show it.
Lillebror Posted November 25, 2008 Author Report Posted November 25, 2008 Both the primary and the secondary IDE-channels are in "DMA if available". Isn't that how it should be?
DreadWingKnight Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 That's not the value box we were after.
Lillebror Posted November 27, 2008 Author Report Posted November 27, 2008 Oh okay. Well the current transfer mode seems to be "Ultra DMA Mode 5" on two of the primary ones, and "Ultra DMA Mode 4" on the latest. With the secondary i got one ""Ultra DMA Mode 5", one "PIO-mode" and one "Not applicable".
DreadWingKnight Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 The controller that has a PIO-Mode needs to be removed and your system restarted.
