Download speed

Lately my download speed has been awful, usually most of my torrents have ranged from 30kBs^ but I'm downloading [READ ANNOUNCEMENT!] and they've been DL for over a week and they're still not even at 50%. The reason i think is because i'm not connected to any seeds but i don't know why, i tried one of those youtube vids to speed up DL's and it seemed to have worked at first but a day after it's dropped to 0.1-3.3 kBs. I've done a port test and it says it's an error and i've tried doing what the guide tells me to but im a novice at computers and have no idea about ports and hub settings and connections etc.

Any suggestions? Greetz

The YouTube videos for speeding up uTorrent that I've seen are so terribly bad that ISPs may take hostile action against customers that use them.

Reset ALL your settings in uTorrent, and then run uTorrent's Speed Guide (CTRL+G) or try the 2nd link in my signature and configure uTorrent based on your max upload.

You may need to set outgoing encryption to Enabled or FORCED if your ISP is hostile or you connect to lots of ips on hostile ISPs. (Many are!)

www.portforward.com ROUTERS section may have your modem and/or router on it. If you go through their step-by-step guides, it should be enough to get the green light (unfirewalled) in uTorrent.

1st link in my signature is for basic troubleshooting...at least take a glance at it if you still have problems.

the main problem ive got is the advanced. my friend that deals with torrents changed some of the settings in the older version of utorrent that made it much faster but since ive updated to 1.8.1 the advanced has carried through with the other settings so that may be part of the problem. Still doesn't explain the fact im getting 0.1kBs and i have a 53meg internet connection, granted i just done a download speed test and it's rubbish but 800kBs would still be a god send right now... i mean im getting expected finishing times of 1years sometimes :|

Reset the advanced settings as well, 1 item at a time, so none of them have a * next to them.

There's too many will-crash-your-computer settings there if you don't know what you're doing. :P

Even when the settings don't crash your computer, many are already pretty good with the default values...and changing them may cause long-term problems or as you've found, bad download speed right now.

There's user's guides and FAQs for uTorrent if you want to learn more about advanced settings...if you want to know more. :)

You seem to be on BT Central in the UK, so your internet speed is nowhere near you LAN speed which you see as 53 megabits/second down. Your internet connection speed may be as little as 2 megabits/second download speed and 256 kilobits/second upload speed. Divide those numbers roughly by 10 to convert to MegaBYTES/second and KiloBYTES/second.
