mg_k Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 I have been researching on the internet and there are a lot of suggestions to improve the speed. For example, - lowering net.max_halfopen to 8 or lower (some say set higher like 200+? which one is correct?)- set 'net.bind_ip' to your local ip address- de-activated IP-v6- de-activated Qos Packet Scheduler- patch the tcpip.sys like in the old xp days (with high risk but....)and of course the general disabling DHT, uPnP and NAT-PMP, port forward, firewall rules etc etc which i have looked into. However, uTorrent 1.8.1 is still having problem connecting to the seeds on a public tracker, it shows there is a lot in the swarm (n i know it is a fast torrent) but i cannot connect to any....the arrow turns red eventually and speed is ridiculously slow...Is there any suggestion for anyone? What do i need to change in Vista and/or uTorrent to get back my torrent speed back in XP?Thanks in advance!!!
thelittlefire Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Generally speaking trust "guides" made by made for a specific program's community. So don't change half-open.Do not set bind_ip. What security/AV/firewall are you using? What is the tracker status error?
mg_k Posted November 12, 2008 Author Report Posted November 12, 2008 I wouldn't try changing any of the settings if i had no problem with the speed.....No security/AV/firewall apart from the windows built in firewall as this is a fresh vista ult install with sp1.No tracker status error, it says working, but just wouldn't connect to any seeds (or just 1) and very low number of peers (<10), speed is ~30kb whereas i was getting >350kb before switching to Vista on the same torrent.
DreadWingKnight Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 - lowering net.max_halfopen to 8 or lower (some say set higher like 200+? which one is correct?Lowering, because increasing just kills substandard hardware and software faster and doesn't actually improve speed.
mg_k Posted November 12, 2008 Author Report Posted November 12, 2008 Thanks for your reply DreadWingKnight.I will try lowering it. I was reading somewhere that for vista ultimate, 25 is the max number u can set whereas in home edition max is 2?What about all the other settings? Any1 else has any suggestion?
