kulags Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 I have a Mac and I'm very much looking forward to the release of utorrent. I'm currently using Vuze and it is absolutely terrible. Maybe if I had more available RAM it would be alright, but I don't. It eats up all of it and makes my computer run comically slow. I have NO need for the video content they're pushing. It is all crap! Thank all dieties utorrent is coming to provide a lighter alternative. Can't wait.
Switeck Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Deluge and Halite may also have Mac versions...at least one of those is certainly better than Transmission.
osm0sis Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 There is also a way to get down to the old Azureus interface, cutting out the "Vuze layer" - look into that too, might help with RAM constraints.
Meat_Puppet Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 I run OS X Leopard on my iMac. I was using Transmission for a long time and it was a good client. However, I recently switched to Vuse and am very happy with it. I have 2 GB of ram, and have the Vuse UI turned off. Ram usage runs about 85 to 100 MB. Right now I'm downloading two torrents, and am seeding 30 more. I'm saying this to emphasize that under a heavy load Vuse is not a strain on my system. Maybe I shouldn't say this, but all (or most of) the features requested for uTorrent are available with Vuse. I might try uTorrent for Mac when it is released, but it's got to be really good to replace Vuse for me.
thelittlefire Posted November 14, 2008 Report Posted November 14, 2008 Transmission 1.4 should be much better now that the "upload limit" actually works... I'm still undecided though, I went from 0-40 KiBps when set at 10, to 8-20 when set at 10.Transmission follows the "mac" way, as far as pre-set "coloring" or whatever amounts to "labels"... and it implemented things like per-torrent connection limits, but does not allow at least manual multi-tier or creation of multi-tier torrents. can't stand downloading deluge for the same reason I won't download the JRE... :/ (I will however admit I have been tempted to test Miro for .tstream support)
