firescuedspam
I just signed up for Optimum Online (Cablevision) and I noticed that my torrent speeds are significantly less. I have tried reading up on the whole throttling thing but I am still a little unsure about my setting with everything I use. My configuration is as follows....OS= Windows VistaFirewall= Windows VistaISP+ Optimum Online (Cablevision)Wireless router= Linksys WRT160NTorrent Program= uTorrent (obviously :-) )Also using Vidalia/TorOnce again I am not sure how to get everything working correctly together, Any help would be greatly appreciated.. GTHK
What'd you do, read my post and be lazy by breaking the rules and cross-posting? Have you even bothered to follow the Speed Issues thread?
firescuedspam
not quite sure how you interpreted this "I have tried reading up on the whole throttling thing but I am still a little unsure about my setting with everything I use", I apologize for the cross post. relax and you'll live longer :-)
GTHK
I don't want to live longer. What are you using Tor for.
firescuedspam
:-), I was under the impression it would hide the torrent connection but I guess that it's kinda useless in that sense? Your recommendations on keeping it on my machine? In doing the research it seems that Optimum Online is "capping" my upload speed which in turn affect my torrents, everyone's answer seems to be to call tech support and have the remove the cap but I am a little hesitant about that, Just wondering if there was another method. Thanks in advance
GTHK
Well like I already said Tor isn't meant for Torrenting, it's already slow on its own. If they're capping you via a modem then you'd have to call and try to get things bumped up, if it's interference, like using Sandvine to break connections, then there are things that can be done to help. Have you installed IPv6+Teredo?Either way you may want to use more conservative settings: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=34259
firescuedspam
I finally was able to finish the glasnost test and the results are below....Is BitTorrent traffic on a well-known BitTorrent port (6881) throttled?* The BitTorrent upload (seeding) worked. Our tool was successful in uploading data using the BitTorrent protocol.* There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent uploads. In our tests a TCP upload achieved minimal 1139 Kbps while a BitTorrent upload achieved maximal 1454 Kbps. You can find details here.* The BitTorrent download worked.
