rlchp
Hi, i have outpost firewall and by defect, allow all tcp connections for utorrent, but i would like to be more restrictive and i have set only one local port for incoming connections. Then, when i see the firewall, some connections are rejected (a few), and the others are allowed. How can i know what ports are used by utorrent for receive connections?Thank you very much, I appreciate your help. Switeck
uTorrent ONLY listens for incoming connections on the 1 port you told it to use for incoming connections.Outgoing connections from your computer are typically anything between ~1000 to ~5000 (the ephemeral port range.)But the ports you're connecting to (the remote computers) can be on ANY port as well.Good luck figuring out how to make your firewall accept those 3 rules! rlchp
In fact, i only need to know what connections accept with tcp, because the rule is set with the local port.I have now open these local ports (1-5000,5677), and the only matter to worry about is connect with the tracker, since that appears to be red. It's probably that the trackers need some ports for a succesfull connection.Thank you very much, I appreciate your help.
Switeck
Oops, I forgot tracker communication is on a different port. Though if you allow outgoing ports about 1000-5000 you'll probably allow that. I don't know what port they typically listen on.
moogly
Generally trackers use port 6969, so allow outbound connections in your FW.
Switeck
I've seen some on port 80 as well...but 6969 is probably more common.
Firon
You need to allow outgoing on every single port.µTorrent only uses one port for incoming connections locally, but the remote port can still vary.
Ultima
More precisely, you need to allow outgoing to every single port, on the ephemeral port range (1024-5000 by default on Windows).
brooxmetro
And Where would you allow these ports? My Router and Modem?
Ultima
Any software firewall you may be using, if any. Routers generally don't block outgoing connections unless instructed specifically to do so.
