utorrent computer freeze

Hello!

I've already searched this forum and google for the last 2 days but haven't found an answer so im writing my own post...

I've had this laptop for just over a year now and never had a problem till 3 days ago. I downloaded Registry Mechanic 3 days ago and cleaned up my registry as well as clicking on the "optimize my registry" button. The system needed a reboot after that so i clicked yes and thats when the problems started... Basically i think there had been a windows update or something like that (i'm on windows vista business 32bit) and when it booted back up it did the old "Configuring updates 1 of 3" but when it got to "Configuring updates 3 of 3" it just stayed at 0% and the computer just kept restarting and doing the same thing in a loop... I therefore went back to the system restore point i made BEFORE the registry mechanic optimization and my computer booted back up again. I opened utorrent because i had been downloading something and after about 2-5 minutes it just froze my whole pc.

For the last 3 days its been the same, i can have utorrent open but as soon as i begin to download something the computer will freeze up after about 5 minutes and ill have to switch the computer off from the mains and back on again. I tried using another p2p program (Soulseek) and that worked fine! I don't know what the problem is... I did notice that when i left utorrent on 2 days ago and went out, when i came back the system had froze but at the bottom of utorrent it said "DISK OVERLOAD 100%" so i made more space (from 9gb to 22gb) but that didn't solve anything!

Any ideas? I'm uninstalled registry mechanic and the only things ive got on my pc for security are windows firewall, avg free 8, spybot s&d, spywareblaster & regcure... I had all these before the problems and utorrent worked fine!

It's Nero Scout that indexes media files, known as a pbm with uT:

Hi there,

I have a similar problem now.

This is my scenario:

I have about 300 torrents open. Most of them are mp3s, meaning small files, but there are huge HD movies, games etc.. when I close uTorrent it freezes the pc after about 60-80 seconds of uTorrent closure, but not entirely - sometimes I can still move mouse, but that's about it - then I have to reset it..

I have 2 partitions on my 1TB HDD. I keep all my data on first partition and the system on the second partition. Why 2nd? It is freshly installed system on HDD that used to be external HDD, but I don't believe this is the issue.

Vista x64 Ultimate SP1, uTorrent 1.8.1.

I must admit, I have copied all files from appdata/roaming to the new system so I didn't have to run over 300 torrents manually... I don't think that this is the case as it was working ok before..

Is there a log file somewhere so I can find out more about it?

Try reinstalling your Windows. You might very well have trashed something when using your registry "optimizer."
