smiffly Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Hi all new to utorrent, apologies if this has been asked before, so here goes. My stats say I have 4380 handshakes? forgive my "noobness" but what are they? also my ratio is 1.113? is that good? bad? and does it affect me when I download or others who are uploading? Thanks in anticipation. Den aka smiffly.
Lord Alderaan Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 A handshake happens when you and another peer have a little chat about what you have and what you'd like to get from each other, etc.
Switeck Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 A handshake is what a peer/seed does when it connects to you...it's basically the number of times ALL peers/seeds have connected to you (in total) since starting uTorrent.Once a connection is established, peers/seeds regularly inform who they're connected to of changes in what files that they have...and what pieces they want next.
thelittlefire Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Ratio tells you how "equal" the data you are uploading is to the download. The faster you download from others the more some are giving you... so it's nice to know you are giving as much as you are taking by seeing a ratio > 1.0Press F1 in the main uTorrent window to open the user manual. It includes a glossary (and other useful information). To learn more about bittorrent and torrenting look at the http://utorrent.com/guides.php and http://dessent.net/btfaq/#what
