Adding a web seed that needs http basic auth?

Is this possible?

Also is there a way to make utorrent just finish up only on the web seed and forget about the peers from the tracker? Often I find that a file becomes available on a private http server while I am still torrenting it, and http is so much faster for me, so if I was able to add the webseed and have it complete only from that, it would make me happy :)

If it gets me the file faster then why is it not the point? Not everything gets torrented on the torrentbox, but for things that do, it makes more sense for me to get everything I can from there rather then using other peers in the swarm.

Adding support for authenticated HTTP isn't the issue. Have you actually tested to see if it works?

The problem is that you want to use the webseed to download exclusively, which isn't the point of webseeding. Adding a "webseed only" mode won't happen because they're meant to help you finish a torrent, not serve as the only download source when there's other peers to download from.

Because the point of a webseed is for there to be a perpetual seed. It isn't there to improve speeds -- it's there to guarantee longevity of the swarm. Hitting the webseed as if it were a peer guaranteed to send whatever data you request goes against that goal, as some servers may go down under heavy load.

Yeah but this is a seed that I am adding, which is a server that I am entitled to use.

The thing is, if I have got 30% of the file via torrent, and then it comes to the top of the queue on the torrent box and completed then its in the swams interest that I then get it from that machine, not from other peers as it frees up the peers to send it to others.

I tried it and then stopping it from seeing the tracker and flushing the peer cache but it was still not able to hit the http server with auth. I dont have access to server logs to see if it was trying with no auth and failing, and I didnt think at the time to look on the firewall here to see if it was even trying.

I cant use torrent from the machine since once something completes it stops seeding it so adding it as a peer manually will do no good, even if I could get it to work (which I cant) and often its using different .torrent files for the same shows so its not going to work anyway.

Um, no. One extra slot doesn't make a tangible difference given that reason.
