Torrents downloading to 100%, except they're not....

Recommended Posts

I've got a backlog of a couple of video files that I've downloaded over the last few weeks, and looking at them today I've noticed that in the case of 3/5 of them, despite being 100% finished on uTorrent, when played back they skip noticeably to the point where they're unwatchable.

Now, if I re-open the torrent file that I downloaded in the first place, uTorrent checks the files, and apparently they're only 80ish %, 65.7% and 52% (respectively) done.... even though it previously told me they'd already completed at 100%.

Has anyone had something similar happen? What causes it, and is there anything I should be doing to prevent it that I'm not? Could it be my HD?

Sincere thanks in advance.

Hi, I have had a similar sort of problem and it is the same torrents that this happens with every time. For example my torrent downloads all the way to 100% but on restarting uTorrent it has gone back to 90%. I have found it to be a problem with my resume.dat Don't know if it is the same with you but.....

OK, done.

Also, regarding resume.dat - looking in my application data for uTorrent, I have 3 files - resume, resume.dat.1.bad and resume.dat.old.

I don't like the sound of that "bad", but I honestly don't know anything about these files and what they're supposed to look like. Does it sound like a problem to any of you cats?

OK, that's done as well. The. bad file was actually last modified about a month ago, whereas the resume.dat one was modified yesterday, so not sure what the deal is there.

If anyone has any further suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. I'll download something over the next couple of days and see how it goes.

Huge thanks to those hwo have helped out so far.

OK, now this seems like a whole different thing but it may be related.

I was having uTorrent check a few other things I've downloaded lately, and it completely failed to recognize one torrent with a handful of video files in it. Like, it knew I had downloaded the torrent already, but checked the whole thing and said 0%.

I tried to open one of the files with a media player and it told me that it wasn't "a recognized format", even though the file worked perfectly yesterday. I safely removed the HD and re-started the computer, and now the files are working fine.... what the hell?

Is this indicative that the problem is with the HD itself? Because I ran the diagnostic software on it while I was at work today and it came up all clear.

uT opens only .torrent files. When you double click on a downloaded file in the Files tab, it opens the program by default on your computer to read it.

E.g. if it's an .avi, WMP or MPC will start to read this movie, but not uT.

You can manage that in Properties > Advanced to run a program.
