Jmp478
µTorrent is causing kernel panics, usually when I'm using CPU intensive applications at the same time as µTorrent.I'm running Leopard (10.5.5) on a Powermac G4 Quicksilver (2002) 1Ghz dual processor and 1.5 GB of ram.The downloaded torrent files are being put on an external USB HDD.Here's the log from the last crash. I was running World of Warcraft at the time (Yes, the process is spelled wrong):Mon Dec 8 18:49:58 2008 Unresolved kernel trap(cpu 0): 0x300 - Data access DAR=0x000000002A6F5FFC PC=0x00000000000B3EA0 Latest crash info for cpu 0: Exception state (sv=0x3b819000) PC=0x000B3EA0; MSR=0x00009030; DAR=0x2A6F5FFC; DSISR=0x40000000; LR=0x0015DB4C; R1=0x29E63670; XCP=0x0000000C (0x300 - Data access) Backtrace: 0x0015DA10 0x00165314 0x00166A10 0x00162F3C 0x001572B0 0x00159694 0x0015978C 0x001438F8 0x00130234 0x0012C71C 0x0012CDFC 0x0012D098 0x000B0654 Proceeding back via exception chain: Exception state (sv=0x3b819000) previously dumped as "Latest" state. skipping... qNation
If an application can cause the kernel to crash, then it is a kernel bug. Most likely the real problem is some bad memory or other bad hardware.
jeffkay
My mac mini panics too. Its new , fairly clean install, and all it does it utorrnet, front row.Whats the best way to check the hardware on a mac.
NoOneButMe
@Jmp478: BSD process name corresponding to current thread: World of WarcrafIs causing the kernel panic, not uTorrent.@jeffkay: Its most likely an Apple kernel bug. But if you want, post the report and someone will take a look.
butyoulied
i dunno how it's not causing it to crash. up until i installed utorrent i had maybe ONE kernel panic in the entire 3 years i've ran my mac. now just about everytime i will get a kernel panic while utorrent is running at some point. last night it panicked when i laid down to bed.. restarted the system, the only things that auto-load on start-up are: twhirl, iscrobbler, quicksilver and littlesnitch.. nothing else. i open utorrent and lay back down.. within 2 MINUTES it panicked again. it's either a real coincedence or something is amiss.but.. everytime it panics i do send the error report so hopefully apple will take notice.. because i've sent about 15+ myself. butyoulied
well there's not gonna be one seeing as how after i rebooted my computer again, seeing as how this machine has put two external drives through 15+ kernel panics, one died about two weeks ago and now my other one died because of another kernel panic. now needle is wiping against the platter. utorrent is gone. never using it again. DreadWingKnight
Well because of that, we won't be able to fix the problem if it is indeed a problem with uT.
wileyj
as a test......open up utorrent with several torrents d/l ing. check the activity monitor to see what your cpu usage is, and more importantly....what the memory usage is. you only have 1.5 Gb of memory.....if your apps (especially with a game running) use up that ram you go right to the swap space which is always a dangerous scenario. i.e. you're moments away from crashing. i've seen this happen before on many, many, many servers....even on some IBM Regatta servers with 64GB of ram, so that's the first place i would check. if utorrent is NOT using too much ram, start loading some of your other apps on top of it and see what they're memory footprint is
Siddhartha
Well, I don`t know what`s the best app for our Mac`s, but take a look at TechTool (Pro), which comes with AppleCare Protection Plan. You can use it for checking your hardware.
Aressera
I've also been getting the kernel panics fairly regularly (mostly when I'm away from my computer and it's under light CPU load). This has only started happening since I started using µtorrent, though it seems like it might be a problem when downloading larger files, as it hasn't really reared it's head until I've started some ~10gb downloads.I will paste the report when it happens again.I'm running a Powermac G5, DP 1.8 GHz, 1280 MB RAM, OS X 10.5.6EDIT: ...
