Strange behaviour in Win98

Does uTorrent need any updated libraries for working properly on Win98SE?

I've got some strage behaviour here - after some time running download in utorrent im starting to have whole system freezes (even clock freezes!) that are not related to CPU load (CPU load stays low according to sysmon). I've noticed that when i throttle download speed in uT the freezes become even more often and severe. Immediately after exiting uT or stoping downloads freezes vanish.

Also got some pretty seldom crashes with uT (last one involved AFVXD.VXD) and can't reboot with uT running.

This porblem confirmed in current version and back to 1.5.

I don't have firewall. Win98's MaxConnection=512, uT's 100 global, 50 per torrent. Tried changing NIC/Video drivers. HDDs are on DMA. Installed Q243199 update.

Here's hijackthis log, really it's clean:

If you have no firewall and are not behind a router, your computer is probably infected...and that's probably causing the Win 98 problems.

Barring that, you'll probably need to turn off uTorrent's extra features which generate additional streams: UPnP, NAT-PMP, DHT, LPD, and Resolve IPs.

Also try reducing net.max_halfopen to 4 or less.
