caliwildman
I have been using PeerGuardian 2 for awhile now with uTorrent but blocking HTTP makes my computer rather unusable since I surf a lot when uTorrent is running. I don't understand torrent protocol well enough to know if blocking HTTP is essential to keeping my ISP from snooping or tracking and blocking torrent traffic, please advise. Thanks in advance for your help.
DreadWingKnight
Peerguardian doesn't prevent your isp or anyone else from spying on your usage.
moogly
Use ipfilter.dat with uT and a decent FW to block in/out connexions, it's enough.
caliwildman
My bad, I dont know what I was thinking. PeerGuardian blocks my uTorrent from connecting to potential antipiracy IPs, I guess the question then is if blocking HTTP affects that ability, thanks. moogly
ipfilter.dat does the same without interfering with uT (speed).
DreadWingKnight
PeerGuardian blocks my uTorrent from connecting to potential antipiracy IPsIt claims to, but after the MD leak, it was discovered that less than 3% of the antipiracy IPs in use were actually being blocked. caliwildman
Does that mean the ipfilter.dat is just as uneffective in blocking antipiracy IPs?
DreadWingKnight
There's no way to effectively block antipiracy IPs except to use torrents they don't monitor at all.
caliwildman
How about using a paid service like btguard?
DreadWingKnight
That only slows them down, and if the service gets court ordered to hand over subscriber info, where are you then?
caliwildman
I have seen it reducing download throughput by about 5-10%, so not that much difference to be honest for a peace of mind. And they specifically state on their site that they don't log any of the users activity, so eh.
