Shaggly Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 I've been a long time user of Azureus, and a Beta tester, but I have to say I am sincerely impressed.I downloaded UT earlier this evening, and put it to the test with a variety of different downloads and uploads. I am very impressed with the manner that it handles a pretty large workload, and yet still doesn't tax my system resources. Now, I have to confess that it is missing quite a few of the glossier features that I used to use in Az, but having said that it is much more efficient at the business in hand, which is after all, P2P.For pure out and out P2P power, without hogging resources, I would have to say that this is definitely the new Big Kid on the block.Good Work guys.
Kludge Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 I also have been a long term (>2yrs) of AZ, as well as an avid lover, of late CVS builds etc... Im also extremely impressed too!I downloaded uTorrent about 4hrs ago, and given it a few tests on download, and upload after configuring itIts uploaded VERY fast, im seriously impressed!.. Its used the minimum needed upload slots, not just open 30 slots at 1KB/sec (like other shitty clients (not AZ))With less that 500ms startup time, my jaw hit the floor to start! One of the torrents i gave it to seed was an almost 12GB MAME ROMs torrent with 5,845 files --- A lot of clients just blatently won't accept this amount of files... uTorrent did, and without fuss!Hash Checking speed: Also very fast too, Another thumbs up!Upload speed & connections: As i said before, uTorrent is a very smart client, and uses the minimum number of upload slots needed, not lots at small speed with DESTROYS swarms!... I managed a peek upload speed of 34KB/sec (256kBits upload on UK ADSL). Fluctuated a little to start with, but is now 25KB/sec and faster!Overall.... AZ... look out, looks like you're losing, and probably a LOT of dedicated AZ users!!Features i missed:1/ Kick & Banning clients (Namely BitLord & BitComet)^ thats the only real main one ^DHT is another issue, which im sure will be requested a LOT, but i really hope the writers of this stunning app will realise that if DHT is enabled by default, and with a lot of badly made torrents, its actually destroying private trackersDHT Implementation is good, but make it an optional feature, ie ENABLE it, not just have it on by default... One of the VERY many reasons i detest BitComet!
solli Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 before utorrent i also used azureus.azureus need much resorces so i switched to utorrent.utorrent is a really good client and now i can play games when the client is on.thanks for this really good client
Quellex Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 I too used Azureus, good program function wise, but it was a resource hog. That was exactly what I was looking for. I was looking for a client that used low resources and got the job done. I happened to be browsing a forum today and hopped upon a software review thread, it mentioned and recommended utorrent so I decided to download it.I started it up and was pretty suprised. It ran straight from .exe and used minimal resources, like its aiming to do. I configured my router and connected. Downloaded great. Few hours later I decide to browse the forums and low and behold I see that 1.1.4 is released. Awesome. Good work on the client.
