shadowscrawl Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 hello i recently updated from xp to vista i have only had it running for about 5 days and i use bitdefender 2009 total securitythe problem started a few days ago when i installed utorrenti will be online and everything will be fine then as soon as i run utorrent (well generally actually within 30 seconds to ten minutes from starting it) i will notice the computer beginning to slow down and drag a little bit and shortly after that i will lose internet connection completelyi am still connected to my home network but all sites will come up as could not connect then it all goes downhill the computer very quickly drags slower and slower untill i cant do anything at all now mind you it dosnt exactly freeze it just gets so slow that it is impossible to do anything when i maximize a window it looks like im getting a frame by frame of the window leaving the task bar and slowly growing larger and larger untill it fills my screenbringing up a right click menu could take up to ten minutes i am running an msi motherboard with the very latest bios, an nforce chipset, amd phenom 9850 quad core processor with 4 gigs of ram a terabit of hard drive space all drives are sata 2.0 (including the two dvd drives) with two nvidia 9800GT video cards in sli mode with a fast cable internet uplink and windows so called vista "ultimate" having only been installed less then a week ago i have set the computer up with a static ip address and have all the ports utorrent needs properly forwarded (i even reassigned utorrents default ports and added encryption to the out signal to avoid getting my bandwidth throttled by my isp) i have bitdefender security properly set up and when i run it i get no virus errors what so ever that being said i think you would agree that i can find absalutely no reason whatsoever that a simple application like uttorent wich by the way has only one active download currently running would be enough to grind all that hardware to a screeching halt in literally a matter of secondsit just dosnt make any sense especially considering that only two weeks ago i was duel booting windows xp with massive ammounts of programs running including utorrent (always on) and 2 game servers constantly on and ubuntu linux with transmission and my ftp server always running and both had been working smooth as butter for several months i have seen others with this very same error but i have yet to find a salution i see tyhat it often gets blamed on vista x64 however that is not the case here as i am running x32 also i know that my drives are in perfect working orderanother thing to note is that if i set my proc affinity to one core for utorrent it seems to go a little bit longer without the inevitable crash and burn but it it still happens eventually (goes from 30 seconds to ten minutes on all procs for the system to lock up to about 10 minutes to 20 minutes on one core for the system to lock up)im really at a loss here and would apreciate any help i can get
