Rostislav Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Hey guys, here it is: I have a modem that is set up as a router, so Web UI is on 192.168.1.2 (my computer), also I have DynDNS like xxxx.homedns.org, all ports are forwarded, I even set up a DMZ for 192.168.1.2 just in case. But when I try to open http:\\xxx.homedns.org:12345\gui - nothing happens. However if I set up my modem like a bridge and of course my computer get dynamic ip and everything is ok.... So the question is how to get Web UI to work on 192.168.1.2?????
Ultima Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Some routers block loopback connections. Try connecting to the address from outside your LAN.
Rostislav Posted December 19, 2008 Author Report Posted December 19, 2008 Thanks a lot Ultima, yeah from outside my network it's ok ))) But I'm just curious what exactly blocks inside my local network it??? cause I switched off both my windows firewall and firewal on router... Any ideas? )) by the way my modem is dlink 2500u
Ultima Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 As I said, it's the router that's blocking loopback connections. I've never used the router, so I don't know how to configure it to do otherwise.
Lord Alderaan Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Actually it is the other way around. Some routers support loopback, by default a router can't (or doesn't) loopback. It has to do with the way NAT and port forwarding work. The router needs an extra bit of logic/programming to handle loopback which afaik isn't part of the default NAT specs and thus not implemented in most routers.
