debrrah Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Hi,I have a DI-624 router by Dlink. I have followed all the directions, checked for firewalls etc..and no matter what port i choose it will not open. I have been it has been 8 hrs and still no completion. can someone help me please as I am at a total loss. I am sitting at home with (2) broken arms and will be house bound for the next 6 months.. I am computer literate but in all honesty I am at a loss here. Any help with be truly appreciated.
MnMike1981 Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 More info is needed for a more specific answer. Is the D-Link your only router? Do you have a modem? Who is your Internet Service Provider, have you checked to see if they throttle your bittorrent bandwith?
GTHK Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Try setting up a static IP address: http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htmWhat antivirus/firewall/Internet security software are you using? What make and model modem are you using?
debrrah Posted December 19, 2008 Author Report Posted December 19, 2008 webroot is my firewall/anti-spyware program, the modem is a speedstream provided by by ISP which is Bell sympatico. As for setting a static address, can I do that even though it automatically choses one for me.. I have the option of keying one in which should be 192.168.0.1
GTHK Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 I think Bell throttles. Unless your model is on the following pf page, I need your modems model: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
debrrah Posted December 19, 2008 Author Report Posted December 19, 2008 it is a speedstream model 5200
GTHK Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Yeah your modem is also a router, here's a guide that should be helpful, find out what address your D-Link is getting from your Speedstream, and then forward to that, so you're forwarding Speedstream > D-Link > Compys.http://www2.windstream.net/downloads/links/SpeedStream211.pdf
debrrah Posted December 20, 2008 Author Report Posted December 20, 2008 where do I find out what address my Dlink is getting from my speedstream...I have been reading the user guide since you forwarded the link and I can't find what I am looking for...
MnMike1981 Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 go to start > control panel > network connections > right click on your connection and select properties > scroll down in the box and highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and hit properties > Write down your default gateway, that is the IP address of your D-Link router. Then go to portforward.com and find your speedstream router for guides on how to set up port forwarding but when it tells you to put in the ip address you should put your D-Link addy. Then you go back to the guides on portforward.com and find the guide for your D-Link router and follow the instructions but make sure to port forward the ip addy of your PC. If this doesn't work try this link: http://forum.portforward.com/YaBB.cgi?board=Knowledge;action=display;num=1133918703.[sidenote]I read somewhere earlier that speedstream modem/routers don't let you port forward, when you type the ip addy of your router in the browser to configure nothing happens. Don't know if that's your model or not, but if it is then you are pretty much screwed. unless you buy a whole new modem. [/sidenote]Good Luck
GTHK Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Check the D-Link, look for a status page, a section labeled Internet or WAN, and get the IP address listed there. Get the Internet/WAN gateway address as well. If possible, bypass the D-Link to set up the forwarding on the Speedstream, the D-Link might not let you connect to it, depending on the gateway address. Use the gateway address to connect to the Speedstream, like with the D-Link.@MnMike1981: The default gateway is the D-Links IP address on the LAN side, The Speedstream assigned an address to the WAN side, which may or may not be the same address. This is the address needed for portforwarding TO the D-Link.
debrrah Posted December 20, 2008 Author Report Posted December 20, 2008 I'm still trying..I was just introduced to this site yesterday so it is a lot of information to absorb. I am such a newbie...But I am determined and with 2 broken arms there is not much I can do but sit here in front of my laptop. I will let you know what happens with the last bit of info you gave me...thanks again
NeverSaidNever Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Yea, I'm pretty much having the same problem. I've set up a static IP, forwarded the port correctly, but still none of the ports work. I have a D-Link WBR 1310.btw, Debrrah, this was a good easy explanation on how to set up static ip page. http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm
debrrah Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 Thank you for the link..still no luck..It is because my modem is also a router..but I have one more avenue to check and if I am not successful I will have patience and accept the speed such as it is...
