Speed test vs. actual download speed

I am new to utorrent and am happy to say that it was very easy to get started. My only concern is that when I performed the speed test, it told me my dl speed is 1543, and upload speed is 2374. first, i never knew that upload speed can be greater than download speeds. But this isnt my main concern. my problem is the actual dl speed that i see when i use utorrent. on average my dl speeds are anywhere from 30 to 60 kB. this seems to be the case when i dl 1 file or 7 files simultaneously. (i havent yet tried more than 7 at one time yet.) doesnt matter the # of dl, the speed is the same. how can i increase the dl speed or is this the max?

yes i did the speed test several times during the day and repeated to test again several times from 10 pm until 3 am. the results are usually the same. i am experiencing a new problem also. i turned it on just about an hour ago and was downloading just fine when all of a sudden, the green check at the bottom turned into an orange triangle. i pressed control+g and tested the port and it said ERROR - the port is closed! when i checked it before, it was always good to go. what could have caused this sudden change? please help.

resetting the router solved the problem. only now, the status at the bottom changes constantly, but it always seems to go back to green and downloads are ok. now my problem is my download speed. this damn thing wont go above 120 kb/s!!! as i mentioned before my speed test said my dl is at roughly 1500 kb. how do i pick up the speed because its starting to get very irritating. please help!!! btw, i just wanted to add that i can dl multiple files and each of them reach a max of 120 kb/s simultaneously. that is, the status bar at the bottom shows 600kb/s total but individually they are reaching only 120?! how is that possible???

Crappy router overloading by the sound of it then.

In uTorrent,

Disable DHT, Local Peer Discovery, UPnP, NAT-PMP, and Resolve IPs.

Lower global and per-torrent connection max to no more than 100.

Make sure net.max_halfopen isn't over 8...and if it was 8 try lowering it to 4.
