A few things that I noticed.

When I started using uTorrent, it was a frustrating experience. I scoured through the forums, learned how to port forward, and finally got it working as it should.

At first I was under the impression that the green light should be on all the time in order for uTorrent to work properly. I don't know how many times I forwarded ports, tried different ports, rebooted my modem and router, and rebooted my computer. I would get the green light for a few minutes then the yellow light, then the green again. Also, my download speeds were astonishingly slow. I have a slow connection, but 1-5kBs download was unacceptable. My speeds would increase then drop to near nothing, then increase again. I also was not connecting to many peers. My uploads have always been good. Then it dawned on me that maybe the green light does not have to be on all the time. I posted the question on this forum, and it was verified. It is normal for the light to alternate between yellow and green. As long as you don't get the red light your OK.

I pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I was not going to get good download speeds, and patience was my only defense.

After a while, my files finished and I began to seed. (I always try to get a 1:1 ratio). After seeding for a while I noticed that my download speeds increased and became more steady. I was also connecting to a lot more peers, and I was getting the green light much more often. Now, I am able to download at my maximum download speed almost all the time. Occasionally my downloads are slow, but that is only with torrents that are not that well seeded in the first place.

So, in conclusion, If you are just starting out and you don't get the red light, just be patient, and when you get a file, seed. Don't be a leech, and you will be rewarded.
