King_Alexius Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 Hello folks !I just bought a new computer and would like to deploy µtorrent on it, but without losting my previous data of µtorrent which are on my former computer...Can you tell me which files and folder I must copy from my former computer to my new one ?In a nutshell, what I wanna do is continue using µtorrent on my new computer like if I was on my former computer : I don't wanna lose my torrents, neither my downloads, neither my preferences, neither the cache...If it can help you, my former computer is on Windows XP Pro SP3, and my bew one is on Vista Pro SP1.Thanks for your help...
moogly Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 Back up all your (un)complete data (+ utorrent_partfile).All the content of %appdata%/utorrent + the folder where you have saved your .torrent (it's %appdata%/utorrent by default). If on your new computer the path of your torrents will change (like HD letter or main dwl folder e.g.), use BEncode Editor to edit the file resume.dat and change in one click the old path with the new one (use find/replace function).http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=31306
King_Alexius Posted December 28, 2008 Author Report Posted December 28, 2008 Hello Moogly !Thanks for your help ! Can you tell me where I can find "utorrent_partfile" ?Regarding the path of the torrents on the new computer, i'll try to don't change it : indeed, I'll will copy my torrents to a new HDD, but will give this HDD the same letter as on my former computer... Is that ok ?This problem concerns only the .torrent files or also my downloaded files ?Thanks a lot...
moogly Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 Partfiles appear only when you are leeching a multifile torrent and you ignored some files. They are saved in the same folder as your data, they contain partial edge pieces of ignored files. So if you want uT displays on your new computer an old multifile torrent with what you have ignored or not, backup partfiles too.HD letter concerns dwled files.
King_Alexius Posted December 28, 2008 Author Report Posted December 28, 2008 Ok man,So, in a nutshell, what I should do is : backup the utorrent folder and all its content (in %appdata%) ; then paste it on my new computer in the Vista equivalent of appdata ; and be sure to give the same name of HDD letter for the folder where are stored downloads. Is that right ?What about the .torrents files ? I put them in the same HDD as the downloaded files, in a folder called "Torrents" ; so should I paste them in the same folder on my new computer, and with the same drive letter ?
moogly Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 Yes..torrent are by default in %appdata%/utorrent if you didn't set previously a .torrent folder in Settings > Directories. So by default back up %appdata%/utorrent implies back up .torrents.In your case, you need to move your folder Torrents too.In my case, I save .torrents in a folder contained in %appdata%/utorrent, so it's easier to manage.
King_Alexius Posted December 28, 2008 Author Report Posted December 28, 2008 Ok, thanks !I'll do that and keep you in touch...By the way, BEncode Editor is not safe : 28/12/2008 18:03:46 http://ultima.utorrent.googlepages.com/BEncodeEditorv0.6.1Unicode.rar//BEncode Editor.exe Firefox Détectés: Trojan-Dropper.Win32.Agent.aanfBy the way, I've another question regarding the auto-loading of torrents in µtorrent, while we put them in a folder. It doesn't work on my computer.I storent .torrent files in the Torrents folder, the dowoloaded files are stored in the Dowloads folder, and after being downloaded .torrent files are still stored in the Torrents folder.Any idea ?THX
DreadWingKnight Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 Sounds like you have an overparanoid antivirus application installed.
moogly Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 Of course BEncode Editor is safe. The dev of BE is a moderator of uTorrent board, your AV has detected a false-positive.Watch the FAQ for auto-loading.
Ultima Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 *sigh* There's nothing I can do about braindead antivirus engines that can't get their scanners right.Bother the antivirus vendor about it, because that file hasn't been changed since it was uploaded (see the EXE's hash to confirm with the hashes here). VirusTotal showed 1 or 2 false positives before, but sadly, when I scanned the (same) file again, it returned something like 12 false positives. Frankly, I'm not interested in chasing the antivirus vendors' dumb false-positive games.
