dAbReAkA
i've been using download master for a couple of months and it's OK.. it's free, no bugs.. the only bad thing is that it's in Russion.. i hate russion (no offence for the russions ) but i understand it (because of it's similarity to bulgarian) so it works for me.. well english is better but ... no good alternatives.. if someone knows a good download manager in english he could share it with us... (flashget sux, DAP sux, getright sux..)
Sisq0
I'm using Internet Download Accelerator ... Download Master is the free alternative of this program.. dAbReAkA .. why don't u try it - i made the bulgarian localization for it hofshi >> if u're using Firefox then DownThemAll extension will be very suitable for your needs

It is basically free - it bugs you ever once in awhile, but you never really have to pay up or even uninstall/reinstall the thing. The new ones have a cute feature that in theory allows you to mix FTP with BT, though I am not sure how well it works.
dAbReAkA
Sisq0 i used it before but it's payed.. i'll try it again now

hofshi
dAbReAkA, 1c3d0g: thanks... I appologize for the stupid question, English is not my native tongue.I already Installed FreeDownloadManager but I'm having trouble with it.I tried to d/l a video file that I got in Gmail. I selected "open with Flashgot" and it didn't d/l it.I resorted to downloading it the usual way. Is there any special setting that should be used after installation? Should I have removed the "flashgot" extension?thanks...
dAbReAkA
i can't download that way either(from gmail and some other sites of that type).. choose save to disk and the download process will start i think it's because u're over SSL
Ares
http://www.wackget.com/ (what I use now)http://stardownloader.com/ (what I used to use)Both are free. WackGet is smallest and most simplistic. StarDownloader has more options. Also both can make use of certain download extensions for Firefox.-Ares
hofshi
Ares: thanks, is it also a download accelarator? It doesn't say on the site.
Ares
StarDownloader splits files into parts and downloads them simultaneously. WackGet is just a GUI for wget (however a very impressive GUI for it).FlashGet is another free one I've used before. http://www.amazesoft.com/ (it also splits files into chunks or "jets" as it calls it, I think). You can try WackGet without installing it (unlike the others). Just get the zipped binaries.-Ares
1c3d0g
Hofshi: no need to apologize. English is not my first language either. About your problem: did you go to FlashGot's Options and changed it to "Free Download Manager"? :|
hofshi
1c3d0g, yes, but that's the only thing I changed. should I have changed anything else? Is there a place with big files to download and see how well this download manager works for me?
1c3d0g
Well, you could try downloading OpenOffice 2.0.1 through FTP. And once you point the FlashGot extension to Free Download Manager, it should automagically pick up Free Download Manager and use it, unless some other download program keeps stealing associations... :/
hofshi
yeah, I thought about that, and even tried it. the "trouble" is that I max my connection there even without the download manager...
dAbReAkA
sometimes i do that too but the download manager has quite more features and sometimes the firefox's built in download manager can't resume files.. from all the browser's built in managers opera's one is the best (unfortunately the browser is not )
Switeck
I use Download Mage -- it's less than 300 KB in size, yet still has a decent array of features. It's not free -- it partially disables itself after 1 month of use, though download resuming and basic download managing remains.
