Mr_Jose Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Hi everyone. This is my first post and i can't seem to locate a similar problem thru the posts i went thru so far.My problem is that Yahoo Messenger keeps rebooting itself (logging out and then logging back in) whenever utorrent is running. On an average this happens at least 2 to 3 times in an hour. I've seen G-Talk have the same problem but it only happens once or twice in a day with G-Talk. I've done the following: 1) Tried setting bandwidth restrictions in utorrent to half of what my ISP provides (download and upload). Problem still persists. 2) Tried reinstalling Yahoo Messenger (Both versions 8 and 9). Problem still persists. 3) Changed my OS from XP to Vista (after formatting and a fresh install!). Problem still persists. 4) Exit out of utorrent. PROBLEM SOLVED.As you can see, step 4 is not what i want. Please help. Regards,Mr_Jose
Switeck Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 1st and 2nd links in my signature. What is your connection supposedly capable of and what settings were you trying to use in uTorrent?
Mr_Jose Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 Thanks for the quick reply Switeck! My connection is 512kbps. I easily manage 65 kb/sec download and 60kb/sec upload consistently thru utorrent. In fact i've ran for days at a stretch without dipping below 60 kb/sec in either of the transfer directions. One point that i must note is that i'll always have 3 torrents downloading and upto 6 torrents uploading at the same time. This tends to go against your advice of having only 2 & 4 torrents for download & upload respectively. This might sound a bit stupid to be asking a moderator, but shouldn't the program automatically adjust the torrent speeds when using more than what you have suggested? Best way to achieve max bandwidth is to have multiple torrents going in both directions, isn't it?As for another point, remember that i have tried putting limitation on transfer speeds (i set it to 30 kb download and 20 kb upload). Even in this scenario, with practically half the bandwidth going to waste, the messenger programs keep on restarting. Would really appreciate your further advice on the matter.=======================================================================Back after a while!I did exactly as advised by Switeck and followed the advice given in the guides. Though you mention 4 as the max upload slots, i even reduced it further to 2 upload slots. Still the same thing. Yahoo Messenger keeps on rebooting after random intervals. (G-Talk does it as well but much less in frequency)Turn uTorrent off and both programs are fine. Anyone out there with advice - please help.
