Nubile Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 OK... I'm a newb... but I read all the stickies and followed the setup guide and I think I'm configured right.. I just want to make sure I am getting the best performance I can.My tested speed is about 190 Kbps but my download speed is rarely more than 10Kbps... is this normal?Any word will help... thanks
thelittlefire Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 Speedtest values are in Kbit, uT and Windows measures in KiBps, it looks like you're on 192 Kbit down, which is 24 theoretical maximum. You are getting about half of maximum throughput down. What is your set upload? Try increasing it to 4 KiBps in uT.
Switeck Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 Shaw Cable ISP in Canada is really shitty if that's all you got. ...That and they throttle BitTorrent traffic too!
Sawyer22 Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 But doesnt the 1.9 beta get around this now?
Switeck Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 If they throttle all encrypted traffic, no.
Nubile Posted January 1, 2009 Author Report Posted January 1, 2009 Thank you all for your help. My upload was Automatic, but changing it to 4 does not seem to have made a difference.I'm using ver 1.81, but I am using encryption... ? Perhaps I will try the beta.I AM with Shaw (wahhhh) perhaps that is it... it seems all the carriers on Vancouver Island have the same issues... and I'm not wishing I lived in Delta though Thanks again for your help, N
l2k Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Shaw only throttles my upload, so it's fine with me.
Switeck Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Throttled uploads don't help the rest of us though. Nor will a throttled upload help you get a decent download speed on a poorly-seeded torrent.
