kiotiMac
I have just changed some settings in uT 1.8.1 Preferences because I thought that the ' Ratio' was a bit low being less than 1, more like 0.030. Having changed the 'Max Global Upload Rate' from 20kb/s to Automatic, the Upspeed has trebled and the 'Ratio' for the three active torrents are now 0.366, 0.068 and 0.128. The latter figure is for a finished torrent that is now seeding.Upload speeds are now 40kb/s to 60kb/s for the two torrents that are downloading and 8-10kb/s for the torrent that is seeding.Download speed increased also. The torrent sizes respectively are 1.85GB, 6.27GB and 180MB.Are the settings that I list below correct and set for optimum performance? The only change that I did make was to the ' Bandwidth: Global Upload Rate Limiting' option.Connection: UPnP port mapping and NAT-PMP port mapping are both enabled.Listening Port:48484Router is Port Forwarded and I have the 'Green' go icon.Bandwidth:Global Upload Rate Limiting:..............................................AutomaticGlobal Download Rate Limiting:..........................................0Global maximum numbers of connections:............................200Maximum number of connected peers per torrent:.................50Number of upload slots per torrent.....................................10Box is ticked to Use additional upload slots if upload speed is < 90%DHT is enabled for Network and New torrentsLocal Peer discovery and Peer Exchange are EnabledProtocol EncryptionOutgoing:...............................................DisabledIncoming legacy connections:....................EnabledQueueing:Maximum number of active torrents ( upload or download):...........10Maximum number of active downloads.......................................10Seed While [Default values]Ratio is: <= 150 % or seeding time is: <= (min).........................0When uTorrent reaches the seeding goal:Limit the upload rate to (kb/s): [0:stop]........The box is unticked and I have not entered a figure into the option window.Your advice is most welcome.Thanking you in advance.KiotiMac :thumbs:Compaq Presario S3010ANFIC 266-8235 (A35) mobBestec 250W PSUWXP Pro + SP3AMD Athlon XP2000+ 1.67GHz768MB DDR 1 PC2700WD 80GB HDD and Quantum 30GB HDD slave.Asus DRW 1814BL Multi Optic driveRadeon 9000 Series Graphics cardLinksys AM300 ADSL2+ Modem Router DSL connection to the Internet: average Downlad speed 1.6Mb/s, upload speed 750Mb/s. moogly
What is your max UL speed of your connection, that's the most important to set uT properly.
kiotiMac
moogly, if by 'max UL speed' of the connection is the one that the ISP mentioned to me when I opened my account with them, I can't tell at the moment because I can not recall what they said. I have just tested the UL & DL speeds using the built in utility of uT and received the following figuresfrom Los Angeles speedtest site: DL = 459Kb/s and UL = 203Kb/sfrom New York speedtest site: DL = 671Kb/s and UL = 211Kb/sThat's less than a third of readings I usually get.Anyway, if those are not the figures you refer to, I can't find out what the ones you ask about until tomorrow. I'm in New Zealand and the ISP I use is Snap.net.nz. I don't think I can get through to technical advice at weekends, but I will try to phone them and find out what you ask, if they are 24/7. moogly
OK. You can use http://www.speedtest.net/ and run 3 or 4 tests to compute an average of your UL speed (stop p2p, websurfing during the test). Then look at this array about settings: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=34259and find your ref. kiotiMac
ok, I will get on to that in a sec.No-one to advise me at snap.net.nz but I went to their site and get this info for "Naked DSL" Broadband....it is full DL speed of 7.6Mbps but due to variables I can expect at a minimum 2Mbps.No mention is made of UL maximum speed, Sorry. I will try the things you suggest even though initially I did do a group of 10 speedtests, found an average for them and divided that average figure by 8 to get a figure of around 70Kbps which I set in the appropriate box for 'Global Upload Rate Limiting'. Then I reduced it to 20kbps about 6 weeks ago until tonight. However, I'll get on with the tests and post the results here when done.Thanksok, I did 10 speedtests at the site you gave link to and the results are below. Strangely, the site is the same one that I tested DL & UL speeds 6-8weeks ago.The Thread and replys to it at http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=361023#p361023 I had read recently but Switek's one at http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=34259 I hadn't read and that is the one that I think will point me in the right direction, though both links are helpful.Perhaps you could advise me on the choices I have made to set UL correctly with the information that I have acquired from all sources to hand.avg. UL Speed from 10 tests:7575kbps / 10 = 757.5kbpsThen, using switek's suggested settings and using the settings for an UL Max of 700kbps and 768kbps, I will input the following figures into their respective places;UL MAX UPLOAD. CONNECTIONS. MAX. ACTIVE. UL Limit. Slots. TORR. MAX. TORR. DOWN.700kbps 70 5 45 140 5 3That's what I will set up and see how it goes.Have more reading to do on the subject as well. The avg. DL Speed was 66,114kbps/10 = 6,611.4kbps. Now that's more like it but alas I don't get that. Best I've had is 4000kbps but that is rare. Before I made the changes earlier tonight DL could be anything from between 0 to 500 (kbps). That's life and the luck of the .torrent, seed/peer draw. Thanks for the pointers.
