rename, move, convert downloaded files

Hi,

After a download is completed, can I rename the file (and/or the containing folder) and/or move it to a different location and/or convert content to a different file type? Or do I then frustrate the seeding process for others?

Background:

- my ratio is constantly quite low: i try to keep all my files stored at the standard location so that they are available for uploads. and i leave my computer on as much as i can. any other suggestions to improve my ratio?

- downloaded files sometimes have strange names, wrong names (song titles mixed) or i simply want to mark them as *checked* or move them to a different folder.

- i sometimes want/need to change the file type, using a converter, e.g. to change .flac into .mp3 or .rmvb into .avi

- i have no clue at all what the consequenses are of these actions. can the files still be used for seeding? or is it necessary to keep the original name, folder, location, file type - and copy the stuff i want to change?

Thanks,

You cannot modify the files in any way if you wanna seed them.

The ONLY thing you can do is rename/move the file. Stop the torrent, rename the file, select the torrent, then go to the Files tab and right click -> Relocate on the relevant file to choose the new location.

thanks for your quick reply, Firon - and thanks again for your suggestion in 'my other topic' to use the 'unlocker' - it's a great tool!

still one more question here:

if i just want to rename the containing FOLDER, let's say of a number of songs - can i do that without any consequense? or must i still stop the torrent first etc., as you described above?

I am confused, could you elaborate on what to do when you rename the file (aka from "Tool - Sober" to just "Sober") and you would like to begin seeding again? It sounds like you are saying to select the file and right click the file tab, but that doesn't really work. I see nothing that says "Relocate". Please help?
