Righteous_Slave
Yo! I know this post has been done before but the replies didn't really answer the question in full. Does anyone know if using Utorrent in the UK to download copywrighted tracks is legal or not? Also, does where the tracks were copywrighted change anything? Thanks guys! DreadWingKnight
Content being copyrighted doesn't automatically make it illegal to download.http://torrentfreak.com/nin-confirms-bittorrent-uploads-080305/ <-- example of a band making an album and making it inherently LEGAL to download it.There are far too many factors to consider to declare specific downloads legal or illegal. Righteous_Slave
The way I understand it is that when you buy a CD or download a track you own only that copy, not the copyright (spelling amended, thanks ) and you arn't allowed to make any copies of it at all. In light of the article you gave there I guess it's only illeagal if the artists/labels say their copyright prohibits it. Have I understood it better? DreadWingKnight
There's a lot more to copyright law than what you've stated. And each region is different.Ultimately though, if the copyright holder says it's okay to download, all other law application to the download must follow the copyright holder's wishes.
