vrmaxx
Been there, done that...the section to which you refer states in part "Simply copy the entire contents of %AppData%\uTorrent into the same folder as utorrent.exe"; it does not delineate a procedure to move the data folder to another drive. uTorrent.exe is located in C:\Program Files\uTorrent; so moving the data file to that location does not resolve my concern (moving it from the primary to a secondary drive or partition). DreadWingKnight
put the utorrent.exe and all the settings files on the other drive. Then update your shortcuts and associations.
vrmaxx
Been there, done that... it didn't work; however, for anyone who may be interested...1. copy the setup/data folder (C:\Documents and Settings\Name\Application Data\uTorrent) to another drive2. uninstall (delete) C:\Program Files\uTorrent and C:\Documents and Settings\Name\Application Data\uTorrent3. reinstall uTorrent to the alternate drive (non-primary D, E, etc.)4. copy/move the setup/data folder saved in step 1 to C:\Documents and Settings\Name\Application Data\uTorrent, overwriting the existing folder (this will restore the original data and settings)5. open C:\Documents and Settings\Name\Application Data\uTorrent and MOVE the contents into the new uTorrent.exe folder location (do not delete the C:\Documents and Settings\Name\Application Data\uTorrent folder).6. start uTorrentAll setup and data information will now be preserved in the event of a catastophic system or hard drive failure.By the way, DWKnight, thanks for your time. intrigue1238
Just to put it a little more simply:uTorrent will read any settings files located in the same folder as the uTorrent.exe first. So move your existing settings from the %appdata%\uTorrent folder into the same folder the uTorrent.exe is located (ex: c:\program files\utorrent). LeoMajor
Now i will be off topic as follow:Off topic #1: I created this account JUST BECAUSE OF THIS thread! so please consider my words.Off topic #2: I was searching for this kind of solution as i needed because i changed/moved my App data folder on to another partition.Off topic #3: My biggest nightmare will be when i will reinstall windows.Off topic #4: Also i was searching for this answer beacuse of my repeated failure of my windows profile. Now ... let's get to the business.ON TOPIC!!!!As i was saying ... my question was either i can RELOCATE %appdata%\utorrent as my default folder for %appdata% is now on another partition along with my other application settings, so this application was one of the hardest and toughest application settings to be moved.Solution:So ..... what i have done:After a (multiple) Win profile failures (doesn't windows a pice of software? ) then i thought to change some settings and make some back-ups, and one of the first thing i have done was to move Application Data folder from Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\ (acctually was the full path that i have moved) from default location to another one from a diffrent location. How i have done that?Well ... here is how you can do:Navigate to this Keay string path from reg edit:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Currentversion\Explorer\Shell Foldersand change the location from string keay named: AppDataThen (optonally this method or before you change the default folder from that string) you need to uninstall uTorrent and then Re-install it and you are good to go As a note to this:Before i have re-install it, when i searched (as you all suggested) from Run this path: %appdata%\utorrent then it was returning an error that he cannot locate the path and make shure that there is this folder and is not Disk protected file.Have a nice tweaking on that .
