lmeece Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 I'm using 2 laptops and two towers in my home network (2 hard-wired and 2 wireless). I have uTorrent on all boxes. My question is can I use the same port number for each box, so I only need forward the single port or do I have to use four different ports? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
moogly Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 4 static IPs, 4 ports to forward in your routeur (TCP & UDP).
lmeece Posted February 1, 2009 Author Report Posted February 1, 2009 I'm using DHCP which shouldn't change anything, so I'll use 4 different ports! Thanks moogly, for your speedy reply.
GTHK Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 On some routers, not using a static IP can prevent forwarding. Also, with DHCP, IP addresses between computers can be switched up, depending on usage.
lmeece Posted February 1, 2009 Author Report Posted February 1, 2009 Thanks GTHK, I'll read over your recommendation and make the adjustments I need. This is just the guidance I needed. I enjoy learning more and better ways to do my computing! I believe this article will solve the problems I'm having.
